Likewise between the standard Booyah Hard Knocker vs. the One Knocker (tungsten) : Some pros will use the standard lipless crankbait with multiple rattles as a search bait - then slow down to work a school they have found with the one knocker / tungsten 2 tap . Other pros prefer to use the lower pitch one knocker / tungsten 2 tap in the colder winter ~ pre spawn period  then switch to the standard red eye shad / hard knocker when the water warms late pre spawn ~ spawn period (same thing in reverse in the Fall ) . *What governs your use of the standard multi rattle lipless crankbait vs. the one or two ball tungsten versions ? Thanks in advance ...

Generally speaking, whichever version the fish will bite on a given day :). Another thing to consider is that the 1/2 oz. 2 tap weighs more than the regular 1/2 oz. version of red eye shad (according to KVD) which will make the fall rate different and run lower in the water column with the same retrieve vs. a regular RES.

~ X2 This ^^^^^   and the  2-Tap  may be better choice for yo-yo action deeper.

Additionally although they both cast like a bullet, the 2-Tap was my choice last fall when I needed to launch casts through a 'stiff breeze'.

All things being equal, the 2-tap seems to travel a bit further with the same or perhaps even a little less effort.  A factor that pays dividends for this Old Hack come about hour 10 or 11 on the water.

As for the 2-Tap getting more or less bites than the standard RES - I can't say on way or the other.  They both produce well for me.

For the longest time, I thought I was just imagining that the 2 tap cast further and ran different. I even started a thread here asking about it. It wasn't until I saw the video where KVD said he weighed them and they were heavier than a regular RES that I knew I wasn't crazy LOL!

Yes - the 2 Tap casts better, but both the standard & the 2-Taps are fishing catching machines. Lipless cranks are my favorite.

Well, I put a standard and a 2-tap on a postal scale and set it to grams.  The scale precision is whole (integer) grams.  They both measured the same (although the 2-tap "feels" heavier).  The difference in weight must be very small - less than a gram.  If someone would give me 100 of each type (and give me a better scale), then we could compare the weight of 100 standard RES to 100 2-tap RES.

No, it just means his scales aren't sensitive enough to weigh beyond 1 gram graduations, meaning no decimal places. So in worse case scenario, the original Redeye could weigh 14.5 grams and the 2 tap could be weighing 15.4 grams. Both would be rounded off (or reading) 15 grams on the scale.

Too bad I don't have any 2 taps or I could weigh them at work. I have a scale that goes to 4 decimal places. Guess I gotta go buy a 2 tap now. ?

I've been favoring the 2 tap since it came out basically. Traps are very popular here becauseof the abundance of white bass fishermen. So I'm a big believer in that different sound getting me more bites.

Maybe the 2 tap feels heavier because the tungsten is denser than the BBs in the standard, like a tungsten bullet weight of the samexperience size as a lead weight feels heavier because of it's density.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying. Tungsten is more dense than lead, so a tungsten bullet weight does have more mass than a lead bullet weight that's the same size. It doesn't just feel heavier, it is heavier. But that might be what you're saying.

Again, this all gives me an excuse to go buy a 2 tap so I can weigh it on the 4 decimal place scales in my lab. Only way to get a definitive answer. Must feed the monkey! Must feed the monkey! ?

This is in grains. 15.4 grains is 1 gram.   .4 grain difference. A standard split ring from a Crankbait weighs 1.1 grains. That .4gr is such a small amount, they basically weigh the same.

Well, it's starting to look like I need to go get fit for a straight jacket :). Thanks to all of you who have weighed the two baits!!

Look, you guys aren't robbing me of an opportunity to feed the bait monkey. I kinda wannna get a 2 Tap anyways. ?

To be continued. ?

So a 1/2oz tungsten weight weighs more than 1/2oz lead weight?

This reminds me of the old question "Which weighs more? A ton of bricks or a ton of feathers?"

Lol. No, of course not.?

See, I wasn't sure I understood your comment. I thought you were saying same size. My point is the 1/2 oz tungsten weight is smaller than the 1/2 oz lead weight bc tungsten is more dense.

I dont have a Two Tap [ yet ] but it may very well cast better , even if they are the same weight .The center of balance with a small tungsten might be different than that of a standard bait .

That's what I was getting at with them feeling like they weigh more. Put a 1/2oz tungsten in your palm and then a 1/2oz lead, the tungsten feels heavier because of it's density.

The center mass of single tungsten ball  should roll toward the rear of the sound chamber during the cast  more than the center mass of several BB's .

This is prob the answer right here. I've been looking for an excuse to buy a 2 tap anyway.

I never did any better with the old Excalibur one knockers than a standard RES which is why I've been reluctant to pull the trigger on a 2 tap.

Now I see what you're saying. ?
