Flipping and Pitching reel - Daiwa SV103?

So I was tninking of getting a Curado 70XG for pitching and flipping 1/2 to 1oz rigs.  Then when asking people about Daiwa reels in another thread, the SV103 got lots of love.  I'm not sure how the SV103 palms either. I really like the Curados, but I'm intrigued by the SV103 and its spool versatility as well as it being built solid.  I was also considering the Tatula SV, but cant tell if it has an aluminum or Zaion on the handle side plate.  I can see using the SV103 for flipping, then as a back-up reel for weightless plastics.  

 

Is the SV103 something I could use for flipping or would the other two reels be better suited?

You don't use the reel to flip you use the longer rod. If you are talking making short cast just use a reel you can cast accurately with. All of today's reels have instant engaged handle reverse, the only issue would be small spool diameters with low line capacity for 50 to 80 lb braid, spool and side plate strength designed for light weight casting smaller diameter lines.

The SV103 will be perfect for what you intend to use it for.

Daiwa SV103 aluminum side plates, 13# drag, 110 yds of 12 lb mono. Lifting power depends more on the rod than the reel. If you are comfortable lifting or pulling 20 lbs of weeds, go for it! Have no idea what rod heavy power long rod would balance with this light weight 6 oz reel? Wonderful small light weight reel.

I have a Daiwa Tatula i use for Flipping. It's a great Reel. You really don't need to speed over 300 bucks for a flipping reel. Check out the Tatulas on Ebay or Amazon. You may get a 200 dollar reel for 100 bucks.

I have an older zillion and fishing combat is what it does best.  Punching with heavy weight and frogging are where this reel shines.

May I ask what your magician's name/contact info is that made your SV103 only 6 oz? The rest of us have SV103's that weigh 7.8 oz...

SV 105 is 6.2 oz, you are right SV 103 is 7.8 oz. just need a rod 4 oz to balance

I don't have the sv103, but I'm happy with my og zillion 50th for pitching cover.  They share the same frame which palms nicely.

Haha that was good. I can tell you that a sub 6oz reel will balance out a perfect pitch dang near 'perfect' Some folks are behind the times and don't like change.

A 7.8oz 'top' reel and a 5.5oz 'bottom' reel on the same 4.8oz rod. Which is a 7'2 mh diablo spec R.  Balance point is nearly the same.  Dont mind the mess. Slowly working on refinishing the basement.
