Stopped by Walmart on the way home from work today. For context, they just did their annual spring clearance and restocked the shelves for presumably the next year. I just managed to get a new with tags (and an anti-theft tag from wherever they got it from lol) Quantum Tour KVD 7'10" MH from a local tackle shop for $35, so I dropped in to try to figure out what line to spool it up with and see if they had any more deep cranks on clearance. Ended up finding 30lb PowerPro Slick 8 for $9 and a bunch of 5XDs for $2! I'm stoked because I recently got a kayak (Eagle Talon 12) and got it outfitted with a Garmin Striker 5DV and I'm now equipped to do some proper deep cranking. Still need to figure out a reel to put on the new rod though.

The thing that caught my eye at Walmart was a reel I'd never seen before. I should have taken a photo, but it was made by Abu Garcia, and I'm pretty sure it was called the "Max Winch" with a 5ish:1 gear ratio for about the same price as the Silver Max. I can't find ANYTHING online about it, but all my Google results are clouded up by Orra and Revo Winch results too.

Anyone know anything about the reel? Can I assume that it'll probably hold up as well as my Black Max (first BC reel and seemingly indestructible), or should I save some money and take a chance on an alternative made-in-China reel from Kastking or something (that White Max looks attractive). Or, should I for once in my life spend more than $50-60 on a reel due to the increased abuse on reels from deep cranking?

I seen that reel in my walmart as well. For that price, you could buy an orra winch right now from Cabelas with their sale they are having right now. I really like my orra winch. Some say it casts better than the revo winch.

Found those at my Walmart also but no information on the web. I believe they were geared 5.4:1. Definitely curious to see more info or some reviews on it. I also agree, for the money the Black Max can't hardly be beaten.

The Orras don't cast quite as well as the Revo, but they reel a lot smoother.

As far as bargain reels go that Orra Winch is probably the best one of the bunch. I've tried to replace it for a couple years now with something higher end and I haven't been able to do it.

Thats what it was. They were smoother reeling. I have debated on "upgrading" my orra winch. But dont have enough reason to do so.

I have recently bought a max winch and I do have to say that it is pretty smooth. If you have had a black max to compare (as i do) then you can tell the difference. It pitch jigs and punch with it on an ardent denny brauer 7'10" heavy flipping stick and it handles great.

Purchased one of the Max winch reels off of eBay (new in package) and was totally disappointed. Reel was fairly smooth especially give the fact it only had 5 bearings but could not get it to cast more than 30 yds for anything.

So is there a difference between the Orra Winch and this Max Winch? If so what are they? Been looking for a cheap deep crank reel.

Could always try a kastking white max or mega jaws.

There seems to be a lot of different versions on the Winch model and that some sound great and some sound so-so. There is the Orra Winch, Winch Max, Winch gen 2 and so on and so on. I just want to figure out which I should go with for a CHEAP deep crank reel and I can't figure out which model is legit.
