Just bought a Shimano aldebaran for flipping/frogging. I've been looking at the GLX in the 7'5" heavy and the Expride 7'6" heavy. I've held both in hand but have never tested either on the water. I want something high quality that's also light and sensitive to pair with the aldebaran and those two have caught my eye. Just want to hear some opinions.

From what I've heard, the GLX is much better than the Expride. I currently own an NRX as my jig rod, and it's awesome. The new GLX rod isn't far off from the NRX. If you can find a good deal on a GLX, I'd definitely go for it.

Thanks Darren! NYBasser my buddy said the Expride is probably better for cranking. I have the old GLX on one of my spinning set ups and I like it a lot. I probably will get the GLX, going to see if I can find one below MSRP. If not I'll cough up the 450 I guess haha

Contact Gary at the TackleTrap. They have a special on the rods putting them around 25% off. I have the MBR 844 GLX on the way. For pure bottom contact stick to something in the Jig/Worm series. If you want something capable of bottom contact and some other apps the tapers of the MBR rods will give you some versatility.

I have both rods. The exprides are sick! I love my glx/nrx rods but I have 5 exprides and they are capable of hanging with them easy. People that say they have problems with Shimano rods probably haven't used the newer sticks. They are some of the most comfortable rods to use period. I own steez, zillion, legend extremes, glx, & nrx rods for Comparison. Either rod will be great.

Only Shimano rod I own is a Cranking series cumara. Love that thing. I don't use any othe brand for reels either

GLX! And as stated above, call the Tackle Trap! Good luck!

I own an expride and it's a very nice rod. I do not own a GLX but I would feel confident saying the GLX is on a different level than the expride.
