G.Loomis GL2?

Hey Everyone, Looking for input on the G.loomis GL2 spinning rod. I know this is one of their cheaper models. Not sure if they still produce this one. I found a guy selling a few slightly used GL2's for pretty cheap (apparently only fished a few times and pretty much brand new). The pictures look really clean. My question is overall what is your opinion on the rod its self? Would this be an upgrade to the St. Croix Mojo bass SC11?

So take this for what it's worth.  I have a GL2 casting rod and I love it.  It was a good mid price range rod by Loomis.  It's pretty light, and sensitive.  I'm sure some of the more experienced folks will chime in but for me, mine has been great.  As far as whether it would be an upgrade to the St. Croix, I couldn't tell you since I don't own one of those.

     I have both rods, the GL2 and three Mojo's. They are both great rods. They both perform flawlessly. If they are rocking good deals on the GLX's for sure snag them up and pass on the good fortune to your friends if you don't want or need to use them.

Had a GL2 dropshot rod that I sold off. Liked it while I used it, but my buddy's Dobyns Fury felt much more sensitive. The GL2 series rod is a good rod if you can get them for under $100, otherwise, there are much better options for the price.

I have a GL2 853S JWR that I throw weightless and weighted senkos, paddletail swimbaits, and the occasional jig on. (It is the burgundy colored one - I think the older models were blue). I think they ran about $200, and I doubt I'd buy the rod at that price - I got mine on sale for about half that. It is a good rod and will cast the lures I mentioned a country mile, has pretty good sensitivity, and plenty of backbone. If you can get it cheap I would definitely go for it.

One of the models is the one you have GL2 853S JWR. Since it is MH and X fast action was thinking this one would be a bit much. Might have to consider it after your comments.

I have several GL2 from the previous generation, I wouldn't bet against me I with one of them and you with a NRX.

It depends on which generation of the GL2 and the price. The old style GL2 wasn't bad but when they updated the series they really missed the mark. The styling was nice and I loved the reel seat and grips but it was heavy, most every $100 rod was lighter and I think every rod in the $150 range had better guides. Now, if that rod was priced at $100-$120 I would have thought that it was a decent rod at that price and if you are getting one that was used, don't pay more than $100 for it. Don't get me wrong, it is far from a bad rod, I just think it was over priced because the blank was on the heavy side and it had the basic aluminum oxide guides which are fine but if you get a St. Croix Avid, you get a much better rod at the same price point.
