Quarry Man Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I've been looking into the 7' M casting version of both the Ikos and Zolo rods. Already read previous forum threads, but thought I'd get an updated one. Thanks Quote
TH-Outdoors Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Edit: Comment deleted. Not judging you for wanting advice, I just think you're too concerned with buying new tackle compared to actually learning about the sport. I apologize. Quote

There was plenty to be said in the other forum post. You've pretty much only posted about your rod and reel set ups and the full list of tackle you posted lol... Be your own person. You should really cut the OP some slack because as he stated in a previous post, he's only 16 years old. He still has much to learn, and if he wants to start a new post with a question, then let him. This a community that was built with the intent that we all help each other learn more about our common passion: bass fishing. Telling people to "relax" and "stop" only creates unnecessary tension that is looked down upon. 3 Quote
TH-Outdoors Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 @NYBasser You're probably right, his tendencies have just gotten under my skin. He doesn't seem like he wants to learn about fishing, it seems to me like he's only concerned with having the "coolest and nicest things". He posted a Flea Market post saying he was selling nearly his whole arsenal then an hour later he changed it all to only one rod. I understand wanting to upgrade but jeez, the equipment doesn't catch the fish for you. Based off his equipment I believe he already has a decent knowledge base. I was one of the first people to encourage him to do whatever he wanted and to not listen to others talking down on him but it's over the top at this point. 2 Quote
Logan S Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I use other's opinions on tackle quite a bit...Not just anyone, but people who's opinion I would trust. There are people on this site that fall into that category, especially when it comes to rods and reels. It's impossible to get hands on with many brands out there so reviews and input are a good thing to have. On to ALX rods...I only have 1, but it has impressed me a lot. The model I have is the Zolo Brawler. Not really in the same category as the rods you're looking at since it's a 7'6" XH...But overall the Zolo line is impressive and gets great reviews across the board. If I was spending $200 retail on a rod the ALX Zolo would be at the top of my list. 1 Quote

It is very cold in my area and I am unable to fish. That is why I take this break period to figure out these things so that I don't need to when the time comes that I can actually fish. I am not concerned with "having the coolest things", but I am concerned with getting them most out of my money. I have a limited budget. I can't afford to buy a bad product and lose a lot of money on it. This is especially important when purchasing expensive things such as rods and reels. In hindsight, I should have been less aggressive in trying to find an answer. A few posts about rod and reel companies and one about my situation would be ok, but now it has become excessive. I understand your frustration, as I am not the only one trying to learn. I posted many of my rods and reels for sale because I wanted to focus on 4-5 nicer setups than to just have 10 that are good. I recently changed my mind because I would lose too much money, contradicting what I said earlier. The one rod that is still for sale was a duplicate that I can live without. It would help me buy other gear that is for other techniques. I want to thank everyone for expressing their opinions. Even though it is my decision what I do with my life and money, having the advice of people that really know what they are doing is a great resource for me to have. 3 hours ago, Logan S said: I use other's opinions on tackle quite a bit...Not just anyone, but people who's opinion I would trust. The lifetime warranty, made in the USA, and components of the rod look outstanding. I am also trying to decide whether or not to go with the Ikos or Solo. Quote
Nole Basser Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I have the Deputy, Toadface and Dragger rods from ALX. I think they are awesome rods. I was like you, my first few rods were $100 rods and while they caught fish i wanted to try a higher end rod without breaking the bank. I can really tell a difference between my previous rods and these. They just have such a crisper and more sensitive feel to them. Cabelas had started carrying them. So if you happen to have one close, you might want to stop by and pick one up. I didn't have that luxury so thankfully after reading all the same reviews that you have read, I took a chance on one. I couldn't be happier. Hope this helps. Oh, and I'm getting the Dream model you're talking about soon. Steve 1 Quote

Too bad I have to fix my boat, otherwise id invest in this rod ASAP Quote
TH-Outdoors Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 @Quarry Man I understand and like I said, I apologize. I'm the same way when buying something new, I always want multiple opinions on it lol. And you're right, there definitely is a lot of money loss in reselling tackle/equipment. You'll be best off with 6 solid casting set ups and a nice spinning outfit. Tight lines and best of luck with all of your new purchases. Quote

Looking back, I never made any terrible purchases that couldn't be undone. Also, I did just fine with what I had, no reason I can't do it again. Also, being on a limited budget and spending $1000 at once on rods isn't very smart. Quote
