Size reel for Bass Pflueger SP30 or SP35 ?

I just picked up a Pflueger Supreme SP30 spinning reel to pair with my 7' Carbonlite rod. After I got it home I started wondering if I should have gotten the SP35. What do you guys think is the best size for bass, The SP30 or SP35 ? I use 10 lb mono line.

When I received mine from TW, I was wondering the same thing. For me, it's perfect for bass fishing, you shouldn't need a SP35. Others might think differently...

I like the 30 for the size and weight. One of the small advantages with the 35 is the bigger diameter spool, which some say helps with casting distance. I use braid to a leader so I don't think I would see any advantage in casting distance, or very minimal at the least.

My wife loves to fish Pflueger Presidents in the 30 size on her finesse stuff. These are on 6 ft light and medium G Loomis rods.  Her crankbait rod and bottom contact rods have 6935s on it.  These are 7 foot rods. Her 7 foot frog rod has a Supreme 35 on it. I was more interested in the larger line per revolution retrieved that the 35 offered. It is almost exactly like the Tatula Type R 8-1 baitcaster I fish on my frog rod.  She was happy the Supreme was lighter than her Presidents and it is sooo smooth.

We use braid and leaders on all but her frog rod and yes I believe it helps  her to cast longer.

I'm a diehard Shimano guy,But a deal on a President came my way and I bought a 30.I put it on a 6'6" MF split grip Premier.It balances perfectly and I plan on using it as one of my Smallie rigs.

I have the 30 and I don't see why I would ever need to go bigger for bass fishing. Not for the techniques I usually associate spinning reels with that is.

The 35 size pflueger is the perfect size for bass fishing imo. It's has more cranking power, higher retrieve rate, and a larger diameter spool than the 30 size.

I have the Supreme in a 30 and a Patriarch in a 35. The 35 Patriarch holds 10 yards more 8lb line than the Supreme but it is due to the braid ready spool. The 30 size has served me well for good size smallmouth exceeding 5lbs, I have 3000 size reels from other manufacturers that are larger but if you aren't needing 12# line on the spinning reel the 30, which is more like others 2500, will be more than big enough.

Ok well it sounds like the 30 will be good thanks for the replies, I just thought it looked a bit small compared to my Shimano 2500 series reels. The only bad review I found about the Supreme is it caused line twist with a few people.. Anyone have an issue with that ?

Well I have about 38" of new snow on the ground from that storm the other day so its going to be awhile

All my Pfluegers are size 30, IMHO it's the prefect size for bass fishing. I used to use 35's and they are not bad, just a little bulkier, and heavier.

You should be closing the bail by hand with any spinning reel to prevent this. Not sure why it works...it just does

Close the bail by hand! I have been in the habit of lifting the rod a bit to tighten the line as I close the bail. Reeling with the loose line and using the reel to close the bail both encourage line twist.  Also many times those complaining never mention they are fishing fluorocarbon , and those lines can be tough to tame on a spinning reel.

I have a trion 25 and it is absolutely perfect for bass fishing. Now it also all depends where you are fishing. If you are fishing very deep waters maybe go bigger.

I have no need for a bigger reel.

All spinning reels create line twist, but some reels are better at preventing/managing it. Shimano and daiwa are at the top of that list.

I have a 35 on a 7ft rod. the 30 seemed a little small for me. i spooled up with 10lbs mono and i think the 30 would be a little small for that but im also using the reel for bass, walleye, steelhead, etc so the larger spool will help with more line.

I use a 25 Supreme XT on my Ned setup, 30 Patriarchs for both drop shot rigs, 30 Supreme for the split shot rig, and a 35 Patriarch on my shaky head rig.

 

Find the size that fishes the pace you want to while still being able to get in a solid hook set quickly.

really you could go either way, but the 30 should balance better on a light rod like your carbonlite.  the supreme's have a higher gear ratio than the presidents, so line pickup shouldn't be an issue on the 30 size.
