SGT Rico Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Say you got up to 275 bucks to spend on a jig/worm rod, and the the jig weights you'll be throwing are between 1/4oz and 1oz, and the worms are 10" or 12" jumbo worms. What action, brand, and length of rod would you get? You'll be fishing braid 100% Of the time with this set up as well. I am almost dead set on a dobyns champion XP 734, but I hear this rod is maxed out at 1oz. If you own a dobyns champion xp 734, do you feel this rod a underpowered in any way? thanks, Quote
NYBasser Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 The 4 power Dobyns rods are best used with 3/8 and 1/2 oz lures. If you are looking to throw heavier, definitely go with a 5 power Dobyns. 1 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted March 15, 2017 Super User Posted March 15, 2017 I would look at the Champion XP series DC744C. I have heard Gary say that the rod is much more than just an inch longer. The entire rod blank is tapered differently and is much more of a heavier duty rod. Quote
DaveT63 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I would consider a good used G Loomis MBR844C GLX. Quote
runt4561 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I would stay with the 7'3" length and just go up in power like they said. if you are looking at a dobyns get a 735 or a 736 if available. Quote
Super User Angry John Posted March 15, 2017 Super User Posted March 15, 2017 Not to mention a rod that would be twenty dollars more but the xx perfect pitch would be an inch shorter and have all the power you would want!!!! Quote
