JohnDHenry Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Hello, I'm graduating this year and with the money I'll be looking to get a really nice Texas rig combo. My current plan is to get a core 50mg7 (if I can find one) and a GLX 803 JWR. Thoughts and or suggestions? My current t-rig combo is a 843 MBR E6X with a scorpion xt 1000 and I love it just want a rod a bit lighter and more sensitive. Thanks Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 15, 2017 Super User Posted March 15, 2017 Personal I would buy 2 reels & 2 rods! Quote
tkunk Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 You didn't mention a budget. The NRX893C with a Metanium XG is a nice setup. 1 Quote

I would say around $550 would be budget. I was thinking around $220 or so for a core and around $300 for a GLX (gently used of course) Quote

You can find the MGL at several Japanese tackle sites for just under $300 shipped, and you should easily be able to find a nice used GLX for $250. I have two that I spent $200 or less on. curtis9 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 May favorite t rig setup is a core 50 on a 853 GLX. I also have a 843 and 844 GLX, and a 843 NRX, but prefer the 853 for texas rigs. 1 Quote
runt4561 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 personally, I don't see the benefit of spending an astronomical amount on rods and reels. you can still get a great performing shimano citica that will last for many years if taken care of and as far as rods are concerned.... there are more options than a loomis glx. I owned one and it was a great rod but, I could have got an equally nice rod for $200 as opposed to $300. Like somebody else said, I would get 2 rod and reel setups for the same amount of money. I realize that the stuff I mentioned is not the best bang for your buck. But that's not what I'm after, I'm after a top notch setup. I did get my first core 100mg in today and my goodness is is amazing. Quote

LOZSteve Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 NRX893c and a Curado 70. With a little searching you should be able to score this for around $600. 1 Quote
JDNKC Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Curado 70 and an IMX worm rod. I love the 803. http://www.gloomis.com/content/g-loomis/us/en/home/conventional/rods1/bass/imx-bass/IMX_JIG_WORM_CASTING.html Quote

DaveT63 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 I believe it is discontinued. I've seen them used on the bay and and on the Flea Market here and on other forums for about $250. Well worth it. I can't say for certain, but I believe the Shimano Aldebaran 50/51 could be considered it's successor. 1 Quote
