bigfruits Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I am familiar with Sunline Defier and love it for topwater fishing. I am needing more line and thinking about trying the Armilo version. Those that have fished both, how do they compare when fishing topwater? I will be using it mostly for walking the dog and poppers. Thanks in advance, -Z Quote
dam0007 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 The armilo defier is a pretty unforgiving line. I wouldn't use it for poppers or walking baits, but buzzbaits and soft body frogs I've had good success with 15 and 17lb. 2 different animals in my opinion it's been so long since I used regular defier, too much coin imo 2 Quote
byram bassturd Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 armillo is stiffer with less stretch than regular defier but far from unforgiving in my experience. i prefer regular defier for crankbaits/jerkbaits but really like armillo in 13-15# for topwater especially 1/2oz poppers and also in 15-17# depending on cover for spinnerbaits. 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted March 15, 2017 Super User Posted March 15, 2017 Armilo #13 works great for topwater. Unforgiving is probably the last word I'd use to describe it. Pop x,pop max, giant dog x,prop darter 80. I have no problems throwing any of those on it. I also throw jerkbaits, squarebills, and mid depth cranks on the same line. Give it a try. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted March 15, 2017 Super User Posted March 15, 2017 Armilo..... Stretch is a relative word. I use it for for all cranks and it really shine on the bigger ones. 11 lb is very versatile What goes through my mind is that these resemble FC so closely, why not keep it simple and go with the FC...just saying Quote
Finnz922 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 The lack of memory and overall handling of Defier is amazing. I absolutely love 15lb for just about anything topwater or small to medium crank. I did not enjoy Armilo, but I only used the 19lb & 22lb. Quote

I thought it was really stiff plus memory. Lol cue @iabass8 to point out how I use 8# super natural for poppers and walking baits ??? Quote
dam0007 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Side note I typically use Shooter FC as main line for Carolina Rig. If I know I'll be retying a lot or there's signs of zebra mussels in the water I'm fishing I'll switch over to Armilo for main line. The abrasion resistance is great for that price point. 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted March 16, 2017 Super User Posted March 16, 2017 I have also found that I get far less treble fouling with Armilo.....think it's stoutness is an asset in this case Quote
