Bassfishin91 Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 Hey guys, I recently bought some 2 strike king pro model jigs that rattle. Question is how would i fish this lure? Im not sure if its like a football jig, casting, etc.? Any advice is appreciated, thanks. Tight lines. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 14, 2017 Global Moderator Posted March 14, 2017 It's more of a flipping jig than anything but they work well for casting as well. Little hops or just dragging it on the bottom works in more open areas. 2 Quote

Super User Catt Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 When it comes to jigs everyone has their own personal repertoire of confusion! What I look for in a jig is a smooth transition from the line to the eye & around the belly, which requires the eye (either one) to be slightly rolled forward. The reasoning is I want my jig to follow the line up to the cover & then slide over or through the cover smoothly. I want a quality brush/weed guard & a quality hook, both are more important to me than head design. Also look at the gap from the eye to the hook point, the greater that distance the faster solid hookups. That jig has it all 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Add a GYCB 4" or 5" twin tail grub, 4" Chigger craw or some type of twin tail Rage in black-blue and fishing it like a T-rigged worm. Tom 3 Quote
Bassfishin91 Posted March 14, 2017 Author Posted March 14, 2017 Thanks for the advice guys. Going to be trying out the lure within the next few days and will post any catches Quote
HeavyDluxe Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 Throw near cover, let it soak, drag or hop it a little, then shake it. And hang on. Just started fishing jigs seriously last summer, and now they're my confidence bait. Plan on being a serious line watcher. Sometimes you'll feel the strike, other times you'll just notice the line start to move, or stop moving when it should still be falling. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted March 15, 2017 Super User Posted March 15, 2017 I fish jigs exactly like Texas rigs . 3 Quote

Thanks i started fishing 1-2 years ago and my go to bait was zoom utail worms in junebug color they were the only thing i knew how to throw. Now im trying to learn how and when to throw different lures and im always hearing how jigs are the go to bait for bigger bass although i doubt miami holds any real big bass. So thanks for the advice. 1 Quote

Unless you mean "Miami, Ohio", you need to just stop it. On average, any bass down your way is going to be bigger than the coldwater ones we have up here. ;-) You all have a glut of riches. (Note: I love living here in the frozen hinterlands and honestly wouldn't want to live anywhere else. And I've caught larger bass up here, too. But they're clearly not as plentiful as the waters of the south.) 2 Quote

So thanks for the advice. Fish the jig in the same places you do the Texas Rig & fish it the exact same way! I have a T-rig & jig tied on 24/7/365, i'll periodically switch between the two till I establish which the bass prefer on a given day. Quote
IndianaFinesse Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 Florida, Texas, and California arguably have the biggest bass in the country, thanks to Florida strain bass, which originated in your area. Quote
ClackerBuzz Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 if ur not catching bass on a jig it's b/c ur fishing it too fast. the aggressive bite times are same as a senko--they will hit it on the fall. otherwise you have to finesse it on the bottom. leave slack in the line and periodically hop it 3-4" forward. sometimes just tap/gently shake it in place. covering water is key when pitching to cover looking for an aggressive bite on the fall. watch Bobby's technique at 2:30 Quote
