Super User Gundog Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 I'm trapped at the compound during a huge, world-ending blizzard. Work has been cancelled for the end of eternity and I'm stocked with food (the usual- bread, eggs, milk, Ben & Jerry's Chunky Munkey). This is going to be about my ordeal and how I'm coping. Some of this blog will be a long, slow decent into madness. Some will be about what I'm doing to pass the time. The first hour since I woke up has not been good. Ran out of Chunky Munkey and am not happy about it. There is about 10 inches of snow out there and I'm wondering if the nearest grocery store is open. Mike & Mike on ESPN is covering women's college basketball. I didn't know Rebecca Lobo's teeth were that large. They almost don't look real. Snow plow just passed by my place. Wasn't plowing the snow, just driving around looking for a place to park. Worst hour of my life. More to come. 5 Quote

Didn't that furry little ba#%*rd in your home state say spring was only 6 weeks away almost 6 weeks ago? ? It warmed up here in Michigan and the ice was all gone. Now we have 2" of snow and 2" of ice. Not nearly as bad as you guys out east but still sucks! 1 Quote
jbw252 Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I call the "Bread & Milk" folks the "French Toast Brigade". What else would you make with bread, milk, & eggs? Good luck to everyone in the path of this Nor'easter. 4 Quote
dave Posted March 14, 2017 Posted March 14, 2017 I traveled from MD to NJ to work for the week. Someone insisted I go to the store for provisions just in case, good advice. I am stuck in the hotel for the day. Not a lot of snow, just some and nasty ice. I have plenty of food. I have tonic water, gin and a lime. 2 Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 I'm at work. The chains are ready for the trucks. The FD doesn't close. BUT, we have milk and bread ... 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Governor preemptively declared a state of emergency for all of NY state. So, no school or government work today. I'm at work. Average commute. There's a few inches on the ground, but it's BAU for western NY. Still snowing, but nowhere near the apocalyptic dumping predicted. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 We already have 6" here and they're calling for another foot today and a couple more inches overnight. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with more than 18". More snow today alone than all of last year and this year combined. To think that I already started charging the batteries for the trolling motor, got every reel spooled and every rod rigged. I really thought I was close to that first trip of the year. 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Hope everyone's OK but you'll not get any sympathy for this human shovel . . . . . . A-Jay 4 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 In our record tying windstorm last week (some areas hit 95 mph) two people died falling off their roof. Be careful. Six died, all told: two fell down the steps in the dark, one in a fire, and one in an accident. 1 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted March 14, 2017 Author Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Hours 2 and 3 of Snowpocalypse passed by quickly, mostly because I was asleep. But I did wake up in time for a scheduled nap. After that it was back to sleep. Our snow total so far is about the height of my next door neighbors 4 year old child. I know this cause he is currently buried in snow in front of my window. But he seems happy. Found this on the local news. The caption is...Carefree prairie dog rescued from PA house fire. What caught my attention was the idea that the prairie dog was "carefree". Of course he is carefree. He doesn't have to pay taxes or worry about germ warfare. He's just a prairie dog. Still out of Chunky Munkey. I know this cause I checked 2 times. Wondering how our ancestors survived with out it. But they were heartier people. More later but for now I feel I must stare out my window while I eat french toast. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 All my ice cream perished in the power outage. Before someone smarter than me points out the freezing temps, I'll remind them that it almost 70 last week. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 I am I bad person for having just ordered delivery? If it helps my case I'm gonna tip well. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 We had pizza delivered to work today. They were right on time. 2 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted March 14, 2017 Author Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Its now hour 7 since I first woke up. I have eaten through most of the bread, eggs and milk. I called Meals on Wheels and asked if they had any Chunky Munkey. They asked if I was incapable of leaving my home. I answered no, I just didn't want to and they told me "That's not what we do". If anybody has wondered what became of the small child buried in front of my home, he was freed from his snowy cocoon by a plow truck that misjudged the curb. I'm sure his parents will locate him eventually. As for me, I have been keeping busy trying to find the proper size envelope for my letter to the Weather Channel where I try to explain the difference between partly cloudy and partly sunny (with accompanying diagrams) and how they have been using those phrases all wrong. On my search I found an exercise bike covered with old, dirty clothes. I replaced the old, dirty clothes with new, dirty clothes and was on my way. The snow has not ended and neither has my blog. More to come. 1 Quote
Super User Jar11591 Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Something tells me my food will not be arriving, and I can absolutely not blame them. If I was a delivery driver, I would hate me for ordering food. 1 Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 Well, we're going to be in the 70's and 80's this week and next. I will gladly trade places with one of you for a couple of weeks. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 14, 2017 Super User Posted March 14, 2017 We were close to 70, last week. Then the wind and cold hit. This is right off one of my fishing spots: 2 Quote

We've gone through several phases. First was bread and milk, and then came half a bottle of Tullamore Dew in the form of Irish coffee, and finally the glory of scrapple tacos. Scrapple is the perfect taco shell. You're welcome, Mexico. We're also on our second leg of an Indiana Jones marathon. If you're gonna blizzard, blizzard hard. 2 Quote
