to me the cabelas felt lighter and the tip isn't so whippy like a switch like the ugly stick is. I just picked up the pflueger president combo with that rod. your better buying the combo cause its $59 till the 22nd.

For as much of a fan as I am of the regular Ugly Stik Gx2s, I really am not a fan of the elites. I have both a 6ft medium ugly stick and a 6ft medium elite and much prefer the regular. The action is quite different, and the tip isn't great. I'd agree with ohihunter that the Pflueger president combo is a pretty slick deal for the price, but otherwise I'd give the tourney trail a try. I think Cabelas has a pretty good return policy if you find it's not up to your needs.

The tourney trail is lighter and has a faster action with more backbone.

Thanks. I will have to feel them both to decide, you are probably right though. Do you know who makes their rods?

I would have to give the nod to the IM8 graphite

rod. I have IM7 and IM8 rods that are excellent,

especially compared to Ugly Sticks. Have owned

the Ugly Stik Lite versions.

Now I've only spent time feeling the Elites in-store

and still find them too heavy for my liking. That's

just me. I used to be a big Ugly Stik fan. Would use

one for live bait circumstances if I still used one.

Haha I thought that the Ugly stik Elite was light! probably just because the GX2 i had before it was so heavy. Have you had any of the tips on the Tourney Trail break? I've read they can snap easily.

I have a Tourney Trail spinning rod -- heavy use...nothing the least bit gentle...it is as good as it was when new a few years ago.  Can't say that I've boat-flipped 8 pounders, or high-sticked snags, but it is rugged and hard to imagine thinking about it as fragile.

I was a big Ugly Stick fan for years.  They were basically all I fished - until I tried a good rod. It took me about a year to sell all of my Ugly Sticks and replace them with better rods. I don't have experience with the US Elite other than playing around with them in stores. I didn't like the feel.   I have no experience at all with the Cabelas Tourney Trail, but I would jump on rod with and IM8 blank in that price range.

I have had a 7' ML Tourney trail for a few years -- nothing fragile about that rod.  It doesn't have the sensitivity of a high-end rod, noticeably more so than an ugly stick, still quite sturdy, crisper action, and excellent backbone. For the price, it's a solid option.
