Quarry Man Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I currently own a 7' M F Cabela's Tournament ZX and 1500 size Cabala's Tournament ZX reel. That is my only bass spinning rod. It works well for wacky rigs and small keitechs. Looking at a new drop shot rod and reel. Would an *** 6'10" ML / Powell Max 3D 7'1"ML work? For reel i like the stradivarius fk 3000? thanks Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 13, 2017 Super User Posted March 13, 2017 I like the "stradivarius" FK reels a whole lot I'd say your 6'10" setup would work just fine with the 3000, though for DS, personally, that is an oversized reel. Again, just me as I'm a 1000 "Stradivarius" guy 1 Quote
NYBasser Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Stradivari's instruments cost millions... Can't imagine what his reels would cost Quote
offsidewing Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 The tourney Zx also have a drop shot version. Lots of value in those ZX rods. You could get a 25 sized Pflueger Supreme reel and be all set! Another option is a Japanese Domestic Market Stradic 2500 with s shallow spool. Like a stradic fk 2500HGS Quote
PatrickKnight Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 The Stradic FK is a wonderful reel and I personally use a 3000 (I don't just bass fish so I like the versatility the slightly larger line capacity gives me over the 2500). I drop shot just fine with a 7 foot medium but in the 100 dollar range I think a Dobyns Fury 702 ( 7 foot medium light) would be a better choice. Then again I don't buy into the thought process of you need a different rod for every technique. 1 Quote
XpressJeff Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I just ordered a Stradic 3000 yesterday and am planning to put it on a 7' Dobyns 702, 703, 704 or 705. As you caN tell, I am still undecided. Most folks I have heard from said it was a bit tip-heavy with a 1000 reel. I also will be using it for multipurpose. Hence the indecisiveness on the rod. Am hoping this will be the predominate weapon of my wife. She is not a big strong girl and I will try to make things as easy as possible for her. She won't always be in the boat either? Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted March 13, 2017 Super User Posted March 13, 2017 XpressJeff if this will be s predominate weapon for her then the 703 or 704 would be nice. 2 Quote
XpressJeff Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 Thank you fishnkamp, I appreciate the help since I have b been out of the game for a while. Would love to talk you about Dale Hollow since I am planning a trip! Quote
XpressJeff Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 703 has been ordered for the Stradik for 3000 reel. I believe I will string that with Suffix 20# braid and pit a 12 yr Seguar leader on it. Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 13, 2017 Super User Posted March 13, 2017 No reason to use a 3000 series spinning reel to balance the rod, just move your hand forward 1 finger width. 703 Dobyns is closer to M+ spinning rod, 702 ML is a good drop shot rod, 703 would be a better all around spinning rod. 12 yard or 36' leader, why bother with a leader over 7' long? Your 3000 series reel will hold over 200 yards of 20 braid! Tom Quote
XpressJeff Posted March 13, 2017 Posted March 13, 2017 I was planning on the FC leader for clarity with t h some backing. I have never done that before but it seems feasible. Quote
