Captain Phil Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 Some of the biggest Florida bass I have ever seen came from small orange grove ponds. However, this is where flipping has a huge advantage. A good flipper will catch bass from large heavily fished lakes and reservoirs that a casting angler will never see. There are more big fish in our waters than most people imagine. I have had the pleasure of riding with game officials during electrofishing and population exercises. In our waters, bass exceeding 8 pounds are not uncommon and are mostly buried up in very heavy cover. Quote
FCPhil Posted May 11, 2017 Posted May 11, 2017 My PB by a long shot was on a small glide bait (5 inch savage gear Shine glide). I was fishing it same place I usually do and first time really trying with it I hooked a bigger fish than I thought possible in this pond. Quote

I know that big fish are present in several of these lakes, and maybe I will catch one just keeping after it. I'm just looking for some suggestions. I was thinking about trying to get into swimbaits. My biggest problem on that front is I'm not really geared up for it. My current baitcasters are all Medium Power with low profile reels. Are there some some swimbaits that could be handed with that gear? I also do fish soft swimbaits like Keitech Swing Impact Fat quite a bit and have caught a few 5lb fish on them here recently. I dont know your exact gear but magnum flukes dont require heavy duty gear. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted May 12, 2017 Super User Posted May 12, 2017 Catching a Personal Best is a piece of cake! Just catch a bass bigger than any you've caught before 1 Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted May 13, 2017 Posted May 13, 2017 I just managed to catch my new PB yesterday afternoon. I didn't beat it by a lot but I was still really excited. Came in just under 5 lbs so I haven't reach my goal of going over that mark yet. Quote
