blongfishing Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 How do you guys wash your tournament jerseys? I have had mine this whole school year and haven't washed it. It has the fish stench (that's a good thing, right? Lol) and I am scared to wash it in the washing machine. Another jersey I had before this one was ruined when washed in my washing machine. Should I hand wash it and let it air dry or how do you go about washing it? I just don't want this one to be ruined. It already has threads coming out from touching velcro. If this is the wrong thread then move as needed! Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 12, 2017 Super User Posted March 12, 2017 Items of clothing are to have tags with washing instructions. Note if the instructions say "dry clean only." If so, then take the jersey to a local cleaners. If in doubt, get some mild liquid soap and using warm water gently massage a small area at the bottom of the jersey with the gentle soap and warm water combination. If the color does not run or if you do not get shrinkage, then consider doing the following: Soak the jersey in a clean sink or clean plastic tub using the gentle soap and warm water. Move the jersey around in the soap and water and using your hands wash the jersey very gently. After soaking and then rinsing the jersey in cold water lay the jersey out to air dry. Your home dryer may have a selection for permanent press or air dry. Check out the controls. But don' let the jersey go through a full cycle unless the washing instructions on the tab allow you to do this. If you are seriously concerned about damage, consider contacting the jersey manufacturer or the outlet where you purchased the jersey and ask them. But check for the washing instructions on the jersey before you do anything and if they are there follow them to the letter. Good luck. Quote
Bruce424 Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Check the label. Usually it might say machine wash. use cold water. Tumble dry. If its like a thin silky material thats most likely dry clean, even if it does say machine wash. Pssst. Frabreeze works well too. Quote
MDBowHunter Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 If it hasn't been washed after a year of fishing in it, throw it in the trash and get another one (YUCK)... Otherwise hand wash and hang to dry. 1 Quote
Super User the reel ess Posted March 12, 2017 Super User Posted March 12, 2017 Washing machine & dryer. Quote
unhallowed Posted March 12, 2017 Posted March 12, 2017 Most jerseys are sublimated polyester which is completely machine wash and dry friendly. The one you had that messed up had to of been a manufacturer mistake as its a dye that is cured into the fabric almost like any other dyed garment. I run a screen printing shop and deal with sublimated garments on the daily. Kids love those digital camo sublimated shirts for little league. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted March 12, 2017 Super User Posted March 12, 2017 If you've won a BUNCH of tournaments wearing that shirt AND you are the hottest stick on your school team by ALOT then don't wash the shirt. Otherwise you're a slob who shows up to a tournament wearing a stinky shirt. Machine wash it on the delicate cycle and air dry it. Take it from me that sharing fish stench is NEVER a good idea. Show some class and show up to the tournament in a clean shirt. Quote
Super User Gundog Posted March 12, 2017 Super User Posted March 12, 2017 Don't be like those smelly hippies who never wash their jeans. Wash your jersey and while your at it, wash New Jersey. Its dirty and smells funky. 2 Quote
blongfishing Posted March 13, 2017 Author Posted March 13, 2017 Thanks folks! The jersey doesn't have a tag so I settled for just hand washing and it worked fine. It didn't stink as bad as you may think. If my mom didn't say anything then it must not be too bad. I am not a slob or smell bad, I was just fearful that it would mess up like the last one. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 13, 2017 Super User Posted March 13, 2017 If it's sublimated just throw it into the washing machine and dry it. I've got 7 or 8 and that's all I ever do with them. Like @unhallowed I also work at a clothing company and we make sublimated shirts and there's no special washing instructions. Once the shirt is printed, it's there to stay and unless screwed up by the manufacturer, nothing is going anywhere. 1 Quote
