If you need a 5 ft. Ultra-Lite Spin for creek fishing for trout they are tough to beat. Great moderate action for Panther Martins, Rooster Tails, Foxes and CastMaster spoons. The ones I have have cork handles. They cost a few bucks more. $3 - $5, something like that. They been around for a long time. For fishing live bait I prefer and old UL Loomis and St. Croix fish. Faster action.

Anyway I’m serious as a heart attack about that. To me they have a place in the trout world.

But I can not give an honest opinion on their other rods, light > heavy for Sm/Lm bass fishing. Never owned one for that purpose. Sorry for not having an opinion for bass. A lot of guys on here probably don’t use them for bass fishing.

I had a couple as a kid. Thought that small clear section of glass was the bomb. Saved up $20 and bought one at a expo my father took me to. I sure was proud of it. Caught lots of fish.  Don’t have a single bad memory about it.

If you’ve ever fished for strippers off granite breakwaters you know rods get beat up. I have 2 Ugly Stik BigWater’s for that purpose.

Interested in what guys think they can be used reasonably successfully for.

Kids, loaners, etc

True story here wether you believe it or not....

Medium action ugly stick, 8lb nylon, father was fishing sabiki rigs for mackerel off of a peir for mackerel. Hooked into one and then a juvenile shark hits the mackerel, he had it on for a solid 6 seconds, rod was bent  so far in half before the shark cut the line with its teeth. Honestly was surprised it didn't cut the line immediately. I wish I hooked into it because I had a 6000 spinning reel with 20lb nylon, would have cut through that as well but maybe I could have played it a little longer.

Since it appears that you've made this assertion to try to stir up some fecal matter. . . .

The Ugly Stik is definitely legendary at certain times and in certain places. An unoccupied Andy Gump at Woodstock would be legendary too because sometimes you only need it to be minimally functional (or super durable in the case of the Ugly Stik) and you just need to get in there and take care of business. But I wouldn't want it to be the only option I ever have. YMMV.

Lol!! Don’t kill your throat too much we are just discussing a rod ! Life goes on! Look at the track record which speaks for its self. Look at every best rod for this or that rating. Ugly stick always in the mix. Why? Because you can do most things with it without breaking the bank. Is it the best rod for all situations? No. For treble hook lures it would be hard to find a better rod . I would have no problem mixing on some ugly stick elites with my more expensive high end graphites which kind you are all made overseas and are overpriced when you discover we’re to get the equivalent rod for penny’s on the dollar. Any rod can catch a fish. Most cath the fisherman.

I have couple of 7' gx2s with 6lb and 8lb test for my tube fishing, So if I loose them I am ok with it. I have couple of 8' catfish specials as well for night fishing, And have couple of 8' striper fishing specials for striper. I paid around 200 for all 6 combos and it is really enough for what I am using them for.

I am looking at the 7’6 elite medium light spinning for a float and fly rod . But it’s only in one piece and I need a 2 piece. I have the 7 ft ultra light casting for one of my bfs reels and it launches a 1/8 spoon like 70 ft . Its whippy but I got it for micro cranks , traps etc for river smallmouth .
