I have a golden oldie, the casting reel is built into the rod. Slick little design. I'm not sure of the brand. Maybe someone on here can tell me.

I'll post a pic soon.

What do you have?

I do not collect old rods and reels, I just keep my stuff.

Unfortunately, I too, rarely "get rid" of anything! Attesting to that fact is an attic and "spare" room with many, many tackle boxes and storage boxes. I actually have a tubular steel Heddon Pal baitcasting rod, with a real old "knucklebuster" Pflueger "Silk Cast" reel.

I also have an old Ambassadeur 5500C circa 1970, which I bought when I got out of the service. Most of my older spinning reels are relegated to the "parts box" once I can no longer get bail springs. :)

I don't really "collect".  Its more like "accumulate".  There is no real rhyme or reason to it.  If it's old and looks cool, or brings back memories, and it's priced right, I grab it.  I will eventually put up some sort of display in my man cave, but right now it's either all in bins or standing in a corner.

Nah! They just kinda don't go away!

Abu Garcia Ambassadeur 5000 (red)

Heddon Mark Special Purpose #6271 5 1/2' MH Fiberglass with a cast aluminum reel seat & handle.

Total weight about 2# plus!

This what I started tournament fishing with, the next year I added another one.

I have a lot of older rods/reels, but not too much I'd consider collectible. I do have a couple though that are near and dear to me. Here's one. I'm guessing the only one who might easily identify this rod is Tom @WRB ;)

This "ugly" rod is an original Stitchin' rod built and used by Bill Murphy himself. If you compare these pics to any of those in his book, In Pursuit of Giant Bass, it'll become apparent pretty quick. He even has a few pages on specifics relative to how he built these rods. This rod is not light weight, weighing in at 12.4 ounces. I haven't fished it yet - not certain whether I should or not  On the one hand, it would be cool as hell to catch a bass stitchin' using a rod Bill himself built and used, maybe even caught DD bass with. On the other hand, the risk of anything happening to the rod out on the water scares me. I acquired the rod from Bill's family shortly after he passed away. Ultimately, I'm planning on placing it on the office wall along with one of his books (framed).

I'm really not a collector, but do have a lot of vintage tackle in my den.

The rod below is a "Stroker Rod"; a short powerful rod I purchased around '1970' (late 60s/early 70s)

The Kunnan blank was my favorite rod for standup fishing with a rod-belt, mostly for sharks & football tuna

Kunnan Hot Rail

  > Graphite – 5’6” - Med Hvy – 20-50lb Line – Roller stripper guide

I bet that is a Hurd SuperCaster. Built around WWII in Detroit I believe. Cool thing is that the rod is made from surplus tank antennas.

i just bought one to display at our lake house. They are very cool!

I had a Kunnan rod, 5'6" MH with Fuji reel seat which I purchased after I broke my Silstar rod. It's the only rod I ever sold, a friend of mine liked it very much and repeteadly asked me to sell him the rod.

Wow! I haven't heard about the "Stitching" technique in gosh knows how many years! Use to be one of my go-to's. But being younger and less patient than most, I gave it up for more aggressive approaches. :)

@catt & @raul

Yeah, the graphite blanks today have much higher modulus, but the Kunnan Hot Rail

was all about power & horsing.  In fact, most of the bluewater rods during that era

were E-glass blanks, because graphite was a tad too brittle for sharks & tuna.

Gosh, I forgot about 'boron'

I had a 'new' Browning boron rod that was snapped by a summer flounder (aka "fluke")

while drifting with the rod in a rod-holder.

Needless to say, that was my first and last Browning rod  :D

I have an old Fenwick HMG rod, a GTC 845. I fished this rod up to a couple of weeks ago. Still fishes like new, and is still in great shape.

Just decided to retire it, because I don't want to damage it.

Just re-spooled one of my grandfather's old setups, gonna try it out soon. Shimano bantam 100 and a 5'6" bps tourney special. I'm excited to try it out. 20170312_181010.thumb.jpg.c8f4331a3e759ec84ed6bb240d217426.jpg
