There are just so many reels. And so many seemingly quality reels available at the $50-$60 ranges (or below) when on sale.

What feature, capability, or feel is that much different that justifies spending an additional $100?

i just picked up a few months ago a President (for around $45) and it seems smooth, casts fine, etc.  what am I missing?

Not being snarky...it's an honest question as this was my first spinning reel purchase in about 20 years...just haven't needed one until recently.

I have Trions, Presidents and Supremes.  they are all good.  The President is a little smoother and more refined than the trion. The big step up to the Supreme is you get a much lighter reel that balances better IMO with a quality light weight rod.  you also get a faster gear ratio, sealed drag and a spare spool.  I use presidents for moving baits and loaner rods.  I use the supremes for my finesse applications.

Right now I trust most of the Daiwa products and the Pfluegers. I am holding my breath because I purchased a Shimano Symetre last year and began hearing about Shimano spinning reels locking up. Shimano discontinued the reel, so I hope I did not waste my money.

I have never had a problem with any of my Pfluegers

Thanks

I have 30 size Supremes matched up with St Croix Premiers, Eyecon and Rage rods.  the new Mojo bass would be similar to the Rage.  I'm really liking the 6'6" medium Premier as an all purpose spinning rod.

Lets look at a few nice rods by price range since you did not specify a budget.

In the under $100 range I would look at"

Dobyns Fury FR 703SF or FR663SF ( go to the website and check out the 702 and 662 also. Dobyns run a half step lighter than they indicate but the lure weights and suggested lures are correct.) A 2 power rod will handle shakey heads, tubes grubs and drop shots. I prefer the 3 power for the grubs and heavier tubes, light texas rigs etc.

Look at a Powell Inferno 6103 MEF this is a really nice all around finesse spinning rod too

Abu Garcia Veritas 2 6'9 med

If your budget can go above that look at the same Dobyns rods in the Sierra rod series.  I really like their SA 693SF.

Yup, this is all over the forums :)

Under the $150 range, American Legacy.com and

look at the Shimano Stradic FK. Darn great reel

for their prices. Normally $199, they're offering

$139 for the 1000, and 149 for the 2500. A great,

no, fantastic deal if you ask me.

Hat tip to @blckshirt98 for the info on American

Legacy's deal.

Agreed re: the Stradic reels. I have 2 and they indeed ARE great reels!

Ok, now heres the "reel" question.

What size reel is best for some occasional finesse, small jig, and senkos?

Im not a bug fan of the T grips on the 3000 and 4000 size reels (which they are usually on)

I just ordered two 2500 Stradic FKs for only $129.99 each with free shipping and no sales tax. Thanks for the heads up, Darren (and @bickshirt98).

I  was all set to order the CI4+ for $229.00 since for a $30 difference, I was getting a better reel. Now with the price drop on the Stradic, the difference is $100 and I am having a hard time justifying the more expensive reel. Really struggling on this one.
