Novafan438 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 On Christmas I got a new Daiwa Tatula Type-R 100xs with an 8:1:1 gear ratio. I am looking for a new rod and line to accompany the reel. I would like to be able to use this setup in just about any situation with multiple things. Lastly, I am trying to keep price in mind. Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 9, 2017 Super User Posted March 9, 2017 Welcome aboard! Give us an idea of what you mean by keeping price in mind. Are you talking a max of $100 for the rod plus another $30 for the line? Personally, I use braid on every setup including casting gear. I like 20#, but you'd be safe with 30 or 40#. I also use a leader on everything... For rods, I like BPS Carbonlites for value and quality at $99. 1 Quote
ethan-333 Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 for a 100 dollar rod i would get a falcon bucco in 7' MH. not a lot you wont be a able to do with that rod. for line i would get some 15lb fluorocarbon. possibly 12 if youre using it more for crankbaits etc. or maybe 18 or 20 lb if youre mainly flipping 1 Quote
Finnz922 Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Irod Fiber 703 ($99) and Daiwa J-braid 30lb ($11) Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted March 11, 2017 Super User Posted March 11, 2017 There are many of options depending on your budget. That reel is really a nice one. I fish a bunch of Daiwa Tatula Type Rs and Tatula CTs. My two 8-1 reels are used for flipping and pitching, and frogging. For under $100 look for a Berkely Lightning Shock rod. The 7 foot mh would do nicely. A Powell Diesel is a nice rod and it runs $60. An Abu Garcia Veritas will run you around $80. If your budget is around that $100 then the Irod Fiber is a good option. Maybe a 7'2 mh. If you can go a bit above $100 to say $150 then there are tons of good options. The Falcon Bucoo micro is a nice series, I own a 7 foot rod they call the Trap Caster. It can handle a lot of different baits. Dobyns makes the Fury series and a Fury FR 734C is about as universal as they make. It runs $110 also. Quote
nameiztaken Posted March 11, 2017 Posted March 11, 2017 Dobyns Fury and PowerPro braid. There are multiple threads here about the best type of rod for a certain technique, depends on what application you want to use the reel for. Since its a 8.1:1 reel, I would get a Dobyns Fury 7'3" Heavy and 40# PowerPro Braid. You could use that setup for Frogging and Flipping, which are probably the 2 best ways to fish imo. Quote
