padon Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Living in PA less than an hour from the Susquehanna it is my favorite summertime playground.my 16 foot tracker grizzly uses either a 20hp mercury or two fifty pound Minn kotas depending on which lake I'm fishing.neither of these do well in the shallow Rocky flows of the susky.I usually fish it from a kayak but paddling upstream on single spot put its can be tough on this powerful river.so I just pulled the trigger on a 14 ft atak with a torqueedo ultralight for 2500. My plan is to use the motor to go upstream raising it when I need to paddle through shallows then lowering when it gets deeper.I'm pretty excited!! Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 9, 2017 Super User Posted March 9, 2017 Oh man, that sounds great. I'd love a Torqueedo ultralight for my setup, but am stuck in el cheapo land with a DIY 30lb thrust kit and a 26# 35AH battery (better than the 85AH I used to carry)!! You'll have a blast, I've no doubt. Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 9, 2017 Super User Posted March 9, 2017 Definitely sounds like a good set up. I have toyed with the idea of trying to finagle my finances to get a torqueedo for the exact reasons you mentioned but i haven't been able to do it just yet Quote
padon Posted March 9, 2017 Author Posted March 9, 2017 Darren for lakes the trolling motor setup you have should be fine.my problem in the river is when I have to paddle upstream in shallow rapids I can't have the weight of that battery.been looking at the torqueedo for years the dam things are expensive!! But the motor plus the atak (which is made to make torqueedo installation very easy) for that price I just couldn't turn down. Hey it's still cheaper than a 30 k dollar jet boat! 1 Quote

I can see your river needs, and yeah, while I call my setup "el cheapo", it really is sufficient. But I'd like the duration of the li-ion battery for some salt water stuff I'd like to do - eventually. Would get me further than my current gig. Quote
