So I have found a few posts about Citica I's and Curado I's being identical except for bearing differences, is this true?

Has anyone (who owns both) noticed any difference between how they have held up so far? Any problems that are citica specific?

In freshwater they have fished identically for me. I'm not 100% on this but if you fish in saltwater I think the anti corrosion bearings of the Curado are the way to go.

I never use my bass reels in salt, its almost like a sin to me haha, Good to hear!

Stick with the Curado. You can find them for pretty much the same price

Shimano dropped the price of the Curado I to $150. The Citica is still at $150, hence why I said they are the same price.

Oh! didnt know that! Time to get them to match the price then :D

Are you talking about the TackleWarehouse sale on it? I'm not buying it now, or from TW...

from what I understand there are 3 differences: the Curado 200i has:

1. double anodized spool

2. shielded bearings

3. drag star is metal

4. also available in 5.5:1 for crankbaits and big blade baits (this is the one I have, the PG version), citica is not.

Figure I'd throw this in, seems like the Citica has a ceramic line guide and the curado has a brass line guide, can anyone confirm?

Not just TW. Cabelas, Bass Pro, all major retailers dropped the price to $150

I have had both and see no real difference in performance. I'd go with whichever one you can get a deal on.

The #1 reel for Speckled Trout & Redfish from Brownsville, Texas to Panama City, Florida is Shimano Citica.

Does anyone know what material the star drag on the Citica is made of? probably doesnt matter much but I intend on having the reel for a while.

It looks the same as the curado to me.

hmm, if its metal, then the differences are basically none... I thought they would have went the plastic route like they did on the E series citica

Looks like metal to me. I believe the only difference is the bearings.

For the same price go with the curado.  With patience you can also find new Curados in the mid $130s and citicas for $110 on popular auction sites. Patience is the key.

With both reels at 150 it's a no brainer, get the Curado.

For the price. Get a Curado. No brainer. I own both the citica I and Curado I and I do not suspect any difference in durability or performance if used in fresh water. I use them both side by side every time I'm out and they are the same reel as far as bass fishing is concerned. However,  I do a bit of inshore fishing down here and wouldn't even think of using my citica. It's either a Curado or calcutta for the salt.

I asked this same question to the Shimano rep last fall at the Bassmaster Elite Series AOY Championship weigh-in at Mille Lacs. He said there was next-to-no significant difference between the reels other than the spool bearings.

I have Citica and Curado I-series reels with the same aftermarket spool bearings and and I cannot tell them apart, performance-wise.

I'd go with the Curado for the same price as well, for the sole reason it's better in every way.  Shimano reps have called the Citica the Curado's little brother.  FYI BPS has extended the reel trade in program.  You buy online and ship to the store, when you pick it up you get a voucher for $25 dollars if you buy the Curado at $149.  Can't use it on the reel but there are some decent deals on lures right now.  Otherwise I'd keep an eye out on the auction sites.

I picked up a citica i the other day for $128 out the door. installed 5 after market bearings , fishes just like my curados.
