Dvo509 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 So I just purshased the Dobyns Rods Fury Series FR 795SB. Now for all you Dobyn guys out there what reel have you paired with it? I am new to swimbaits and so for I have bought a few S wavers 168, a weedless hudd 68 rof 5, 8 inch line thru trout, and a couple 7 inch shine glides. So I plan on throwing lures from just over an ounch to a little bit over 3 oz. Any ideas or reviews would be much appreciated from guys that use these rods or use similar rods. I am hoping to keep it any from $100 to $150 range. Thanks for reading Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted March 8, 2017 Super User Posted March 8, 2017 I have read some guys using a Shimano Cardiff A series reel. I have read some reviews very happy with it and some not so much. I suggest you do some research further on it. I know it is more money($199) but consider a 300 series Lexa from Daiwa. Lots of guys using it for swimbaits. Check tackle Warehouse for reviews. You might find it online for less. Lastly Lews makes their Super Duty in a wide spool version for this type of application. Again it reuns $199 but maybe available online for less. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted March 8, 2017 Super User Posted March 8, 2017 Curado 301D and Calcutta 301D are what I use. Quote
ib_of_the_damned Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I have three reels that I use for swimbaits, Daiwa Lexa 300, Abu Garcia Orra Winch, and the *** with a deep spool (for smaller 6" swimbaits). Quote
Airman4754 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 Calcutta, Curado 300E's, Cardiff, Lexa, Beast, or Super Duty wide spool will get it done with ease. Quote
evilcatfish Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I grabbed a 795SB last Fall and so far I really like it. Not as refined as some of the other swimbait rods out there but the QPR on it is fantastic. I've used a Tatula HD Custom and Z2020H on mine and I think the Z is the one I like better with this rod, well at least for my application. Seriously though, don't feel like you have to get a heavy duty swimbait type reel if you are only throwing baits up to 3oz. Any QUALITY reel should do fine. I know of guys that use the regular Tatulas on baits in the size you wanna throw with no issues 1 Quote

Dvo509 Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 I ended up going with the Lexa300HS. Hopefully it works out fine. Thanks for the responses! Quote
