I bought the 1 oz yellow suicide duck. Seems to be the perfect size for a baby duck, hatchling and heavy enough to throw on my swim bait setup.

Any of you bought one and tried out? I won't be able to play with the duck till this weekend.

I almost bought one just for the heck of catching bass on a plastic duckling, but I decided that a laugh wasn't worth seventeen bucks or ducks.

I bought the wood duck color one and fished it for the first time a few weeks ago. Had a bunch of hits but only hooked one. Once I landed it I had a pretty good idea why I kept missing them.

BB86, what do you meat you kept missing them?

Lots of strikes that would knock the bait into the air or miss it completely. The back hook is on the top of the bait, so the bait almost has to be engulfed when they strike the back of the bait to get the hook.

I suspect most of the strikes I was getting were white bass though, which also helped to contribute to the many missed strikes I had. I've heard there's a stinger hook offered that might help to solve some of that issue though.

I bought one (and a few other lures) to hang on our xmas tree as my wife was complaining that I wasn't excited enough about doing xmas stuff with her.  She thought it was funny so I guess I did the right thing.

As for fishing it, I have a local pond where the pattern is as follows;

  1. Little kids show up to feed the ducks, which makes them swarm the banks
  2. All the sunfish run right up to the banks to get the food the ducks miss
  3. The bass cruise just past all the duck-commotion to pick off the sunnies on the edges of the school
  4. I cast a baitfish imitator out there and catch bass

So i think I can make the duck lure work here by casting it on the edge of the duck swarm and working it like a gosling that is straying away from the group.
