runt4561 Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 Just ordered a carbonlite 2.0. Just wandering if anyone has experiences with them or the older version? Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 8, 2017 Super User Posted March 8, 2017 For a second I thought you were asking about the Carbonlite rod series. So I looked, and you mean the casting reel.... No experience with the reels. Rods are excellent. Quote
dmainor Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I have the first version of this reel and for the money it's an excellent reel, good for light lures to 1/8 oz. dug Quote
Nscheele Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I've got two of the white carbonlite reels and they have been really great for what they cost. Never had an issue with either of them. Quote
GreenGhostMan Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 I bought the original carbonlite as my first baitcaster ever. Learned how to cast with it. It served me well in that regard. Very easy to use without backlashing. However, the anti-reverse started going out after only 15 or so trips to the water. I need to strip it down and clean it, but afraid I won't be able to put it back together correctly. Over the winter, I purchased a bunch of Lew's reels and I don't think I'll ever buy anymore BPS reels other than the occasional PQ when they are on the classic sale. Quote
Nscheele Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 One word of advice on maintenance, the dual braking system selector mechanism is a beast you get back together if you completely disassemble it. I spent more time trying to get that back together than the rest of the process. Seems that just a good soak in simple green and a flush was all that was required on the second reel. One of mine also had some anti reverse issues, not engaging correctly every 15th or so cast, but a good cleaning was all it needed to function correctly. 1 Quote
Super User kickerfish1 Posted March 8, 2017 Super User Posted March 8, 2017 The older charcoal reels are absolutely garbage. Worst gears I have ever had. After I took the first one back the second one is just as bad after 3 uses. Sent it to a reel tech to see if he could smooth it out some but to no avail. Reel has been sitting idle for 2 years in a drawer. Quote

Maybe I'll take it to BPS to have them clean it for me. Anyone know how much this costs? And do I have to mail it off somewhere or can I take it to the store in person? Quote

rmcguirk Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I picked up one at the recent sale. Felt nice. Smooth and precise. We'll see how it casts, etc., when spring come along. I've got several PCs, and they are not the highest end, but they are workhorses, and the new real feels much nicer in hand. Quote
Jason Penn Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 i picked up a couple of the 8:1, and they're really solid feeling reels. i haven't gotten a chance to use them, only cast in the back yard, but i really like them. Quote

They haven't seen a lot of use, but are two of the three reels I used learning how to cast 3/16 oz. Shad Raps on. The other was a tuned TD-Z 105H that has been tuned and upgraded. I don't really see much difference in casting distance. Both cast that weight a fairly good distance. I like the dual brakes. Color of the reel isn't a favorite. Quote
