Super User everythingthatswims Posted March 7, 2017 Super User Posted March 7, 2017 I went to a local reservoir today in search of a jerkbait bite. My friend was out there recently and crushed them, the water was 50-51 degrees when he fished and fish were up shallow cruising and cooperating well. Today when I got on the water, the temperature was 46 degrees, clouds prevented the water from heating up and it only got to 47 by the time I left. The bite was tough, I had to fish really slowly and I couldn't really make sense of where my bites were occurring and why. On top of that, there was a rowing meet taking place, so there was a significant amount of boat wake that I think negatively affected the bite. I caught 11 bass, most of which were about a pound. I did find two studs though, a 4.18 and a 5.24. Both big fish came from the mouths of coves in about 10 FOW, and I tried to duplicate the bite but it didn't happen. I was fishing a vision 110, and pausing it for 5-10 seconds at a time was the only way I could get bit. This was my first time catching numbers of fish working a jerkbait slowly so I'm pretty happy with it! 17 Quote

Super User Dwight Hottle Posted March 7, 2017 Super User Posted March 7, 2017 Jerk bait bite is a blast. You are figuring it out. Quote
Smokinal Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 My first 100-150 fish this year will be on a jerkbait. My home lake has a stupid jerkbait bite just after ice out that lasts about 3 weeks. I can usually catch 40-60 or so in a day and try to get 2-3 days of this before it ends. The jerkbait bite is heads and shoulders (or fins and tails) above any other bait going. Can't wait! Thanks ETS, you just got me all fired up!! 1 Quote
BigSkyBasser Posted March 8, 2017 Posted March 8, 2017 You're getting me stoked for ice out here! I just bought a bunch of new jerk baits including my first Pointer in the hopes it will help me target an early season trophy. Beautiful largies! Quote
