I cant find any reviews on this thing so figure ask you guys.

Thank you.

No comment on the rod.

I think it was Dodgeguy who said he had no trouble casting light lures on his Trion(s).  I did.  Of course I'm not the caster he is either.  :(

Is it the older model or the new model?  The older model had an aluminum frame.  The new model has a graphite frame.  The old model uses centrifugal brakes.  The new model has magnetic brakes.

The following comments are for the older model.

I sent two to DVT for a good cleaning.  The one with a Carbontex drag upgrade I gave to a deserving young man.  He said it was the smoothest reel he had ever used, but to the best of my knowledge his experience was very limited at that time.  At Mike's suggestion, I spooled the other Trion with heavier line (in this case 17# mono).  I mounted it on a 6'10" HF and it is a casting machine.  Haven't used it the past couple years due to an influx of other reels, but I never backlashed it after making the change.

It isn't a pretty reel.  It isn't the lightest reel.  But it was a fine reel for the price.

I have zero experience with the new models, but for $24 you could use it a year or two, throw it out, and still be ahead of the game.  Don't see how it could be any worse than other graphite framed reels on the market...if it is the new model.  If it is the older model, you got a great deal.

EDIT:  I originally didn't follow your link.  I couldn't say how long a graphite frame reel would last as I don't think I have any.  Some of the lower price reels in other lines also have graphite frames...such as Lew's....and seem to last more than a year for some people.  They even get praised.  I'm sure amount of usage, maintenance, handling and quality of material and assembly would all play a roll in how long the reel would last.

If it is the exact one you linked, it would probably last a season of heavy use (due to the graphite frame). I went through 2 brand new Abu Black Max 2's in a season when I started using baitcasters.

If you can spend a bit more, the H2O Xpress Mettle is a great reel. $60 and worth every penny.

Yeah, I saw that. I have 4 of the new President baitcasters, and they've been awesome. I'd be all over the new Trions for $24.

Im not sure if its the new version or not. Walmart had several in the clearance section.

Like I said....the old model has centrifugal braking....the new model magnetic braking.  The old model was silver/grayish with gold colored handle, star, tension cap and spool.  The front has a rectangular opening with a gold colored line guide.  From what I see on the Internet the new model is white with a dark top piece.  The only gold color I see on it is some trim on the spool to highlight it.

I still have the old grey model (can't speak to the newer model) and I've had it for what feels like 10 years.  Its was a good reel and was my favorite to skip with.  I busted the spool pin trying to remove it over the winter.  I'm hoping it doesn't effect it's performance.  For $24, I'd definitely go for it.

I have two of these in LH. Great reels! Smooth as silk.  Spool spins forever!  Not a new reel.

I have used the old model for years,  like Fish-o-man said "the bail spins forever".  55 seconds after 10 years of Salmon, steelhead, bass and even sturgeon fishing.  Brought a 59" sturgeon in at the Bonneville dam with a massive current.  The only thing I've replaced was the drag washer (after the 59" sturgeon).  The reel casts light weight a long ways.  Smoothest reel I've used and never backlashes.  I paid 149 for it and saw the new ones on amazon for 50.  Bought 2 and the new stile is not the same quality.  The spool barely free spins for 3 seconds.  The inside guts are mostly made of plastic and just doesn't feel like the quality the old model is.  I did try it out salmon fishing and it brought in a couple nice 20lb Coho with no problem.  The drag wasn't as smooth as the old model. I was able to use pretty light tackle and still could cast a good distance.  Without any backlash all day.  Luckily I was on a small coastal river.  Some of the biger rivers I wouldn't have been able to cast far enough without putting on to much weight.

Old trions were awesome. I had the round and the low profile ones. Can't comment on the new one. I would never buy a graphite framed reel. I have since moved on to Lews reels.

Go out and use it. If it feels good at the end of the day go get two more. If they last one season each your in good shape.
