NWbassman Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 The striped bass fishing on the Northwest Miramichi river in NB, Canada is INCREDIBLE!! Over the past 5-10 years the population has absolutely exploded. From a low of 3-5 thousand fish in the mid nineties to well over 3 hundred thousand stripers today the amount of fish has to be seen to be believed. In May and June these hundreds of thousands of stripers head upriver towards the head of the tide to their spawning grounds. The sight and sound of these hundreds of thousands of stripers isn't something that can adequately be described in words but really has to be seen to believed. The Miramichi has traditionally been known as a destination for Atlantic salmon fishing but is quickly becoming famous for it's world class striper fishing. There are times when landing over 100 stripers or more per fisherman in one day is a realistic goal. Not only are there lots of stripers to be caught but there are lots of large stripers over 20 and 30 pounds with the occasional 40 pounder. The season runs from May 1st to Oct 31st. The best fishing is typically in May and June but Sept and Oct are really good as well. Stripers here in NB aren't listed as a sport fish so no fishing licence is required even for non residents. If your looking for a new destination for your next fishing adventure look no further than the northwest Miramichi river. It will most likely become the best fishing trip you have ever experienced!!
