CTBassin860 Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 was going to trade in an old reel for the discount at BPS.They were all out of 25's.The 20 size is 10 bucks cheaper and will still hold 125 yds of 6# equivalent plus a significant weight reduction(*** oz).Im wondering if ill be disappointed in the smaller size? Mostly fishing from the bank the 20 size makes sense in my head.Anyone use a 20 size and happy with it?? Quote
Bass Turd Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 The Pfueger 20 size is on the smaller size. More like a Shimano 1000. I use it for my Ned Rig rod. Check the specs for max drag and how much line it takes up per turn of the handle (Inches per Turn or IPT) to see if it will suit you. Quote
CTBassin860 Posted March 4, 2017 Author Posted March 4, 2017 Its going to go on a 7' ML Shock rod if it helps. Quote
Crankin4Bass Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 The Pflueger 20 size is more like a 500 size Shimano. They both hold 100 yds of 4lb test mono. I have the Pflueger 20 size on my UL trout rod. I find the retrieve to be very slow. I also have a 30 size Pflueger President on a 6'6" ML Berkley Lighting Shock I use for bass. I would suggest trying out the Pflueger 30 size or a Shimano 2500 size reel on the 7 foot shock in a store to see if it balances well. Whatever size you wind up liking, I think you can't go wrong with a Pflueger president. Quote
Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted March 5, 2017 Super User Posted March 5, 2017 are you talking about the 25 size which is equal to a 1000 size i use a Patriarch 9525 , i use 6-10 lb. braid with a long leader of flouro , i love the reel as it weighs only 5.6 oz. and works flawlessly . i don't see my self ever needing a bigger spinning reel ... No there is a 20 size on the BPS website.I decided against it.I know it's going to be to small. Quote

Bass fishing is best Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 I'm splitting hairs with this comment but I considered the same reel myself a few months ago. When you buy the 20 size Pflueger you get less bearings. I don't know for sure how that would affect the performance and overall durability but it would mess with my head in a strange way. Have you considered looking at the President XT instead? Only reason I mention it is with the trade in you would get $15 off instead of $10. It's a much nicer reel for the extra 20 bucks than the regular president and lighter. I own the 25 President XT and it is the perfect size IMO wouldn't go any smaller bearings or not particularly on a 7ft rod. Can BPS just order a President for you while still using the rebate? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted March 5, 2017 Global Moderator Posted March 5, 2017 I have one, it's a very slow retrieve with that reel. It's currently on my son's Dock Demon until he graduates to something better. 1 Quote
Super User DogBone_384 Posted March 5, 2017 Super User Posted March 5, 2017 I have a 20 on my UL rod. I like it, does the job. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted March 5, 2017 Super User Posted March 5, 2017 Well, I currently have 3 #6920 Presidents that I use for crappie fishing on 9' rods. Love those little reels. I've caught some pretty big fish on them too. But I'm loading them with 2# test Fireline Crystal and a fluorocarbon leader. They cast like a dream and very durable reels. Not knowing what your target species is/are, or which presentations you use, it is difficult to make this kind of recommendation. Quote
Largemouth21 Posted March 9, 2017 Posted March 9, 2017 I would say wait until they're back in stock. No use compromising what you want just to get it earlier. Get the reel you actually want and can use Quote
