Airman4754 Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I used to tell everyone that was having a hard time catching fish to throw a Keitech and a Drop Shot. Seems simple. Big fish eat little fish and a worm dangling in a fish's face is usually a successful outcome. I got off work early today and it is a CAT day (Cold-Awful-Terrible) with a steady cold wind out of the north. It's what every piece of knowledge tells you will be a slow day. For this experiment I picked a local pond that I have never fished before. I used green pumpkin for everything because well, it works 24/7/365. I set out to fish the entire 4ish acre pond all the way around with all three in the order of Keitech first, drop shot second, and Ned third. By Keitech I mean a fat impact, drop shot was a 6" Robo, and Ned was a TRD. The first trip with a Keitech, no bites. The second trip with a drop shot, no bites. The third trip with the Ned I caught 14 and only got half way around the pond before I lost the two Morel heads that Mike makes. I just left after that, the results were in. Another shout out to Mike and the heads he makes. They are awesome and I didn't lose a single fish. I think the bulk of thatits rod and fisherman, but they were part of the equation and did their part. Me being a finesse guy I don't know what took so long to really get into this technique, but it is the real deal! 4 Quote
OCdockskipper Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 Like you, my introduction to the Ned Rig was with a TRD. I know many swear by the ZinkerZ cut in half, but the success I have had with the TRD for the past 2 years has been amazing. It is really fun if you are in the backseat of the boat with a good angler (or two) in the front and only you are throwing a Ned Rig. In many instances, it is incredible the number of fish that are missed by the guys in front and are caught by you right behind them. 2 Quote

Absolutely true. Equally amazing are the many bass missed by the Ned Rig 1 Quote
Super User Darren. Posted March 18, 2017 Super User Posted March 18, 2017 I'm so excited to try my Ned Rig setups but getting more nervous at the same time... Too many great stories ... for the other guy. 1 Quote
jbw252 Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 Nice experiment. Thank for sharing your results. Quote

Too many great stories ... for the other guy. My neighbor told me he loves to bass fish and fishes his cousin's pond all the time but never catches much. This morning we went out there both were throwing Ned's. We landed at least 50 fish between crappie and bass in about 30 minutes. My six year old catches fish on it with ease. My two year old caught a bass on one. I've never fished anything easier to catch fish on. 2 Quote

Well because I fish for fun, I'm all about "easier" Really wanted to get out today, but alas, soccer tourney again (kids). And tomorrow is near 100% rain. So I'm feeling a Neddy day soon, very soon. As it happens, I can't tell you one thing about the Whopper Slopper, except that I watched Dahlberg's show when he concocted it. I have a hunch that it's on 'both' our Buy Lists Quote
Smokinal Posted March 18, 2017 Posted March 18, 2017 I recently picked up a 90 in Bluegill; haven't thrown it yet as it would bounce off the lake right now. I know where and when I will though. Advice=I heard they are coming out with a 110 version which I would wait for. IMO, the 90 is too small and the 130 is too big. Call me Little Red Ridinghood i guess.... Quote
