jr05 Posted March 15, 2017 Posted March 15, 2017 I have a carving set I got AGES ago (like...20 years) and would love to spend some time on it, do you have a recommendation of where/what I should get for wood that would be easiest for a beginner? 1 Quote

The best wood I have found, easiest to carve is basswood. Ironic isn't it...."BASS"wood...lol. I get mine at a woodworking store in my area called "Rockler". I really don't know if they are nationwide. You also can usually find it at "Hobby Lobby". If you have any woodworking stores in your area, they will most always have a better selection of sizes and better prices. It's really a very relaxing hobby. As I have stated on a previous post, until December, last, I had never carved anything in my life. Not even a turkey...lol. So, I have a total of 3 months experience. I just Googled Rockler, and they are pretty much scattered all over the country. Hootie 2 Quote

Super User Sam Posted March 20, 2017 Super User Posted March 20, 2017 Sorry Hootie, that does not look like Bear Bryant. Of course it looks sober and better than Bear Bryant. But it ain't anywhere close to the real Bear Bryant. 1 Quote
