Bear on a stump. Carvings are slowing down now. Getting fishing gear ready. It's almost time for my lake to open.

Sorry for the lousy pics. took them with my phone.

Soooooooooooo glad your lake is going to open.  You need some fishing time before the ol sawdust takes over.

I have a carving set I got AGES ago (like...20 years) and would love to spend some time on it, do you have a recommendation of where/what I should get for wood that would be easiest for a beginner?

The best wood I have found, easiest to carve is basswood. Ironic isn't it...."BASS"wood...lol. I get mine at a woodworking store in my area called "Rockler". I really don't know if they are nationwide. You also can usually find it at "Hobby Lobby". If you have any woodworking stores in your area, they will most always have a better selection of sizes and better prices. It's really a very relaxing hobby. As I have stated on a previous post, until December, last, I had never carved anything in my life. Not even a turkey...lol. So, I have a total of 3 months experience.

I just Googled Rockler, and they are pretty much scattered all over the country.

This one and the small bass are my favorites. Not sure why I like this bear so much, he just looks cool. ?

Btw, I thought you said the lion was gonna be your last one for a while. You might have stumbled upon a 2nd addiction. ?

Ha. Don't feel bad. I had to go back and look at all the comments on this bear to make sure I hadn't seen it already. I kept thinking, did I see this bear before & commented but I forgot about it. Lol.

Sorry Hootie, that does not look like Bear Bryant.

Of course it looks sober and better than Bear Bryant.

But it ain't anywhere close to the real Bear Bryant.
