I plan on getting The Pfluger President and 7'0 Medium Heavy lighting rod as primary freshwater fishing combo. My combo now is pretty bad. I need a new one. This will be my combo for mainly bass but I'll try to catch other freshwater fish as well. This isn't fora specific size just whatever gets on the hook. Would this be a good combo?

Yes it would be.

Are you getting spinning or casting?

I think that a Pflueger President on a Lightning Rod Shock is a very good choice for someone who has limited funds but is in need of serviceable gear that won't let them down. I much prefer the Shock to the standard Lightning

It will work fine. Assuming its spinning, use a 6930 or 6935.

I own too many Pflueger spinning reels, according to my wife, a few of them are Presidents.  They're great reels: light, smooth, and reliable.  Can't speak for the rod myself, but I'm sure the membership will chime in with good words.

This is the exact combo I put together when I bought all new stuff 4 years ago.  The tip broke on the pole so I bought another one and it happened again.  I still use it with the tip busted off and even though I've had two of them break it's still my favorite combo.  I saw the Lightning Rod Shock in Walmart for $30 the other week.  I should have bought it.

Great price on Shock on Fisherman's Factory Outlet!  Cheap shipping too!

Not seeing it listed on their site right now.  I'm mad at myself for not buying it at Walmart for $30 the other week.

Those Pflueger President spinning reels are tanks.  Smooth & tough, not expensive, and durable.  Good luck out there.

Pflueger President spinning reel is a really good reel for the money.  I'm not familiar with the rod at all.

Excellent combo under 100 bucks!

The only thing I dislike about the Lightning is the hook keeper. It always catches my line.I solved that by removing it lol.
