What chatterbait weight do you guys recommend for all around maybe 1-15ft of water? I was thinking about 3/8oz.  I dont want to buy a ton of different sizes and would like a size that kinda of does everything.

Thanks!

3/8 & 1/2 should cover most situations.

I use 3/8oz for almost all of mine.

I have several dozen chatterbaits. 95% of them are 3/8. Unless you need casting distance against a stiff breeze or are needing them to get down quickly and deeper 3/8 is a good all around size. I use it from a few feet of water to about 10.

I use 3/8's for everything less than 8'.

Last year I started experimenting with heavier weights for deeper water, and have not found the answer yet. 3/4's was the size I used most for 10-12' FOW, but I am going to bump it up to 1 oz. this year.

I like to use 1/2 ounce so that the bait gets down to the bottom quickly. Once it is on the bottom I like to slow roll it along.

I use the 1/4oz but mostly the 3/8oz.

I ended up getting a bunch at 1/4oz as once  you have the weight of the blade, a skirt, and the trailer, they end up at slightly over 1/2 ounce total.  The 3/8oz ones ended up a good bit over 3/4oz,  which was too heavy for the rod I wanted to use them with.

I use 1/4 oz but not the junk ones produced since Zman was the brand, and rarely 3/8 oz. None heavier.

If I need more weight for casting distance, I use a Live Magic Shad trailer.

as most have said already 3/8oz is good for everything i also use 1/2oz in some situations, normally when i prefer a bigger profile bait i may even go to 3/4oz

I started out using 3/8 ounce but now I almost exclusively use 1/2 because i like to slow roll my chatterbaits along the bottom.

Around Lake Fork there are a few bait shops that make and sell some of the biggest chatterbaits you've ever seen, Some were 1 1/2 oz with huge blades. I've "heard" lots of big fish have been caught on them!

Being more practical, I use 3/8 almost exclusively but will swap to a larger size when I'm fishing a lake with big fish in deeper water. Here is a link to what one of my sponsors calls their chatterbait--Lunker Thumper. I rig it with a Lake Fork Tackle Magic Shad.

I've been messing with some big ones. These have the magnum blades and are 3/4oz heads. Had some fish slam them yesterday.

1/2 ounce, with a 4.5" live magic shad......I fish these shallow and deep, over grass, open water, through timber, and catch fish pretty consistently
