ohiobassfishing Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Anybody know which bearings I should use in my Daiwa lexa 100h. They are fine just looking for better performance. Also what size would I need? Thanks. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 Just flush the ones that came, and use a high performance oil, like Oust Metol or Rocket Fuel. Otherwise, better performance has more to do with who's hands are on the reel - e.g. practice. 1 Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 The only major change you can make is to change out the spool bearings. I found that the standard daiwa bearings are great, just take them out, take off the shields and clean them out real good. Then choose a high quality oil like the boca lightening oil or the hedgehog alchemy oil. Quote

Just wanted to know what brand to go with if anybody has changed them on a lexa 100 before. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 Smooth Drags has all the stuff you need to swap them out - tools, oil, bearing kits. Their ABEC 7 hybrids are reasonably priced, and perform well. While you're at it, replace your drag with Carbontex. This is an upgrade that reaps benefits far and above a bearing replacement. Give Dawn a call, she'll set you up. They're a great family company to work with. 1 Quote

That's essentially what you're doing by buying aftermarket bearings for a lexa. It's a very budget friendly reel and it's not going to respond to better bearings. I've owned 2 of them and have been down that road. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 If it were me, I'd just flush the bearings, and pop Carbontex washers in there. Fill out the order with grease, oil, and tools. Quote

Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 Bearing upgrades may make it seem like it's "faster" on the bench, but the reality is, you're going to turn on some brakes, adjust the spool tension, and any net gains are minimal. The Lexa doesn't really have a spool that will exploit the combination of bearings upgrades, and light baits. That's what rippin is getting at. If the bearings are shot, by all means, put good ones in. But you sound determined to upgrade them anyway. 1 Quote

Super User fishnkamp Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 If you sell it then step up to a Tatula CT or wait a little and look at a new Tatula CT SV. They should be sweet. Of course that is yet to be determined since none are available. Should be soon. A Tatula CT is available for $100 shipped and can be souped up pretty easily. I fish a bunch of 100 size Tatula Type Rs and a pair of CTs. I love them. All of mine are stock and perform well for me. I am told that a pair of ZR bearings on the spool and a couple of bearings added to the line guide can produce a super reel pretty cheaply. Quote
Super User webertime Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 It's a GREAT real for heavier baits (Tossing C-Rigs, Big Footballs, smaller swimbaits). I'd keep it for that sort of use as it will definitely cast far enough with those baits. Quote

I'd just keep it - it's tough as nails. Interesting thing, one my longest casting reels was a Daiwa Procaster that I bought on clearance for $40. No, it didn't cast 1/8 oz. baits, but like for like, it would wing a topwater a mile, and that's what I used it for. Quote
