Luna2406 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Planning on fishing Chickahominy lake this Saturday, planning on putting my kayak in at Ed Allens. I've fished this area a good amount but being in a kayak kinda puts a limit on how far I go. I want to paddle further than I have in the past, about 4 miles up the lake where it gets real woody. Was wondering if anyone has any experience fishing back there? Seeing how our friendly neighborhood bass have moved up shallow I'm thinking I would do well in the shallow water by all those trees. Im not asking for secret spots just wondering if paddling about 10 miles that day (there and back) is going to be worth it. I've seen some roads that are closer to the area I want to fish but I do not know if they are private property. Any information would help Thanks guys. Quote
Cheeseburger Eddie Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Fished Ed Allen's Tournament last weekend water temp was about 65. They were eating finesse top waters in the afternoon. Fishing was a bit tough though. As far as I could tell they hadn't made it to the backs of the creeks yet. The biggest bags were caught past the No Wake Zones. Caught a bunch of chain picks on a spinnerbait. Quote

Super User Sam Posted March 4, 2017 Super User Posted March 4, 2017 Luna, too late to give you some info but heading up river presents problems with lots of debris in the water. But the fishing can be great. And this time of the year has the snakes hibernating. Let us know how you did. Quote
Luna2406 Posted March 11, 2017 Author Posted March 11, 2017 It was 23° when we put in at eagles landing...lets just say that trip was more of a scouting trip than anything else Lol we didn't catch anything but that area looks awesome for when it warms up. The channel was 14 ft deep the rest was probably between 5-7 ft. Quote
Super User Sam Posted March 12, 2017 Super User Posted March 12, 2017 Wait for the dogwoods to bloom, which indicates the bass are on their beds. Then head out again for Chick Lake. From that date until late fall, the lake should be a fun place to fish. 1 Quote
