cddan Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 https://youtu.be/EvYE91VVhuUMy curado I makes an irritating noise while retrieving. Like the spool is rubbing or something. I've completely cleaned it bearings and all. It functions perfectly but makes noise during retrieve. Anyone having the same issue or know any fix? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 28, 2017 Global Moderator Posted February 28, 2017 It's a well documented issue. A light coating of oil on the brake drum should fix it. 4 Quote
Poolshark Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Noise on the retrieve and not the cast? One of mine started doing that. I sent to have it cleaned and lubed and it came back quiet. One of mine started a year after I bought it. The other one is still quiet. Also, in addition to that, as said above, keep the break drum oiled every 5 outings or so. This will keep it quiet on the cast. Quote
OnthePotomac Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Pinion gear and drive gear lubrication possibility, or they are not meshing properly. Did you remove the plastic pinion yoke and put it back upside down? Quote

Also in response to other replies the brake drum is oiled good. Quote

georgeyew Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Check to make sure that the line is not overfilled and rubbing against anything. 1 Quote

It does sound that way but I've had the reel apart and cleaned several times. I fish the reel a lot. It casts great. It free spools well too. It seems to me it may be the X ship bearing Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 28, 2017 Super User Posted February 28, 2017 I think you have a bad bearing. Quote

Nothing else and the noise was still there. I believe it's the x-ship bearing supporting the pinion. Disappointing. Hopefully that's right. Found it online for 6.97 plus shipping. Gonna try to get one and go from there. Not sure how that could fail. Anyone else have this issue let me know. Thanks. I'll post back in a week if that's it Quote
JDNKC Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 If you need to change bearings upgrade to the Boca ceramic bearings. I have done this on all my reels. Amazing! Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 No need for a ceramic bearing in that spot. If you flush the bearing and spin it you'll know if it's bad. Soak it in gear oil to relubricate it. What did you do with the AR clutch? 1 Quote

I washed ARbearing with soapy water dried overnight and lightly oiled with qtip and oil Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 The degree varies but I see this more often than not when the gobs of factory grease are cleaned out. I have yet to pin it down to any one thing. I'm playing with one on the bench right now. Quote

Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 1, 2017 Posted March 1, 2017 In that there is sound as the spool turns on retrieve , yes. Not as loud as your video but there's distortion and background noise so it's hard to tell. Quote

cddan Posted March 3, 2017 Author Posted March 3, 2017 Called Shimano they were very helpful. The sent me a new bass boat for my troubles. Just kidding. I received new bearing (x-ship bearing). It seems different. More slots in it I assume to give it more access to lubrication. It did the trick. God forbid the reel ever makes a strange noise again I'll loose my lid. Lmao. 1 Quote
cddan Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Well unfortunately the noise has returned. Gonna flush the drive bearing see if that helps but it seems the new bearing became that noisy again by my second outing. I'm thinking water may be getting to it via the thumbar Quote
Acerty Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Sorry to necro this thread but I'm having near identical issues with my Curado 70. Just got it in February and it worked great the first few times I used it (didn't really have it out until recently since weather want very cooperative) but now it is producing that Same sound. I tried doing a basic clean and lube since I did fish in rain a few days but it did not resolve the issue. DVT, were you able to find anything with the reels you had by chance? Quote

TX-Deluxe Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Random question. Did you mess with brakes a couple times by removing the side plate a couple times? I had a Citica fail within a month. Quote
