Flip the reel upside down. 

On the bottom of the frame (under the level wind assembly), find the black plastic spring loaded tab / button.

Slide that to the left ( in the direction toward the center of the reel), this will release the palm side cover.

I think there is a secret small screw you're missing, maybe inside the area the spool is in.  I have that blue bomber and I had a similar issue when I tried to clean it.  Haven't used the thing in a llloooonnngg time, but I can check it out when I get home later this evening and relay the info back (if you haven't gotten it by now).
