For those of you who have the Savage Gear Suicide Duck what colors work best? I wanted the Wood Duck color but my local DSG was out so I picked up the Mallard. I'm thinking of swapping it out when they get the Wood Duck back in. Also thinking  getting the black for night fishing. Any info/opinions appreciated!

Since the Savage Duck is a topwater bait, the fish likely only sees a dark silhoutte from beneath so color won't be as much of a factor as action/noise.  Maybe in clear water conditions a white vs black belly could make a difference but anything from the waterline and up, the fish will never see.

I had thought of that too but wondered if others have had more luck with certain colors. I think I'll get the black too for the darker silhouette for night fishing.

Best to match the hatch....you will probably need to paint the lure periodically throughout the year...mallards tend to become a duller color in late summer/early fall....may want to study your local ducks and continually repaint your lure as the season progresses

I think I will pass on the Duck!  Lures catch more than fish FISHERMEN!  I will stay with the Whopper Plopper!

I have those too and the duck is very similar to them as far as functionality, it basically has two rotating spinners on the back where the feet are like the WP has at the tail.

I did watch the videos on the Duck and it is kinda similar in action to the Plopper. LOL when I did see this thing,I am not saying it won't catch fish, but just not for me! I will stay with my topwaters and the Plopper! Good Luck!

My honest opinion? If a bass is going to eat a duck, or something the size of a duck, he probably could care less what color it is. He's probably hungry/angry and just wants to attack the animal/bait.

I have the wood duck. Good looking bait. Similar to the Ploppers, but the sound is much more subdued, but with a larger bodied bait. I've had a lot of strikes but not much luck with hookups yet. I wasn't worried about color when I bought it and not worried about it now. The fact that it's a topwater and creates so much of a disturbance, I really doubt they get a very good look at the bait.

I ended up ordering the Wood Duck and the Black color patterns in the 110 size. I got a "Flash Sale" promo from DSG yesterday that offered free shipping plus the ducks were on sale 2 for $25 (normally are $15 each) plus a $5 mail-in-rebate from Savage Gear so in essence I got 2 lures for $20 (and saved $10) shipped to my door. I will return the Mallard version and get something else :D.

Just got 2 of these. When’s the right time of year to fish these? When do ducklings hatch and start swimming?

what about rats also? Anyone know what time of year they start being active?

thanks!
