Hey all,

I got my first fishing kayak and I am looking to mount a Garmin Striker 5 onto it. I was curious how the connection goes from the Striker 5 to a 10ah 12v battery with F2 connectors. Anyone have a pic of a Garmin fishfinder power cable or know the name of it?

I'm guess I'll need an SAE to f2 power cable?

Thanks!

Didn't your depth finder come with a power cord? Crimp 2 connectors available at any hardware store to the black (negative) and red (positive) wires on the power cord and push them on the terminals of the battery. You won't be using the blue or brown wires. The manual has a diagram with the wiring instructions and a graphic showing the power cord. If you don't have one, you can download the installation manual from the Garmin web site.

Your unit should have come with a power cable and likely a fuse/fuse holder. When I set mine up for my kayak I had to make up a longer power harness to reach the rear of my kayak. So I shortened the stock wire, removing it's fuse holder. I set up a small locking Tupperware container with a rubber gasket as a battery box with a small hole and grommet to pass the wire through. I got a waterproof atc fuse holder and proper fuse. Then using 18ga 2 pair wire from West Marine I soldered in the fuse holder, crimped on ends for connecting the battery, and soldered on a 2 prong flat connector and left an 12" pigtail out of the box. I made a longer cable with two of the same connectors on each end soldered on, and solder one on the end of the stock power harness for my unit. This allows me to swap out a longer or shorter cable if needed. And my battery charger plugs right into the same connector out of my box. Keep in mind you want your fuse as close to the battery as possible. I solder and heat shrink wrap everything, and I heat shrink wrapped the crimp connectors for the battery.

I got got most of the supplies from Amazon or Walmart other then then the wire.

If if I get a minute I will post pictures.

I use a Milwaukee M12 high cpapcity battery to power my Lowrance fishfinders on my Lure 11.5 and Ascend 128T.

My Lowrances have dedicated power harnesses so I use a small Pelican case with a waterproof connector on a pig-tail and velcro it in one of the kayak's storage bins.  I easily get a full day out of one battery but the Pelican box holds two nicely.  I use Hobie grommet kits to route the Lowrance wiring into the hull.

When I use the batteries for work I keep the lowrance head in the Pelican case.
