dsqui Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Anyone ever have issues with the t wing failing to work on a daiwa. I've always been a lews guy myself but like trying new things every now and then and am debating a a tatula type r or just sticking with the old tried and true lews Quote
Fun4Me Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Never heard of one breaking on it's own. But Diawa's customer service would make it right if it ever did IMO. Buy with confidence. There are a ton of T-Wing reels out there, and I've never heard of it being a problem. 1 Quote
Mr Swim Jig Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Never had a problem with one and I have been fishing them since they hit the market. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 There's nothing mechanically wrong with the t wing design. It works well but is not the game changer the marketing suggests. They're good reels at a good price 5 Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted February 26, 2017 Super User Posted February 26, 2017 I can tell you from my experience the T wing works very well. I have been systematically selling of my Shimano Curado Es and Chronarchs (200 E7s) and BPS Extremes and going to all Daiwas. I own one Exceler, 4 Tatula Type Rs and two Tatula CTs. I really like the way they cast and their drags are really smooth. In my area, of the Chesapeake Bay, we target bass and stripers but often catch large channel and blue cats. The abuse those fish put on a reel is amazing. I have had two of the big blues almost spool me. Each time they ran off the side of an island and directly under the boat. I had to have my partner lift the trolling motor, work the rod and line around the boat and then get the fish caught. I have friends that fish on the Potomac and they run into the big snake heads. Those fish are ridiculous, they grow fast and fight really hard. I am still going to add 4 more Daiwas, as my budget allows. More than likely they will be Tatula CTs. The only thing about the Daiwas that you might find negative is the size. Most Lews reels are pretty small. Take a good look at the Tatula CTs as they are the smaller reel. Both size reels hold the same amount of line so that does not matter. 1 Quote
S. Sass Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I was like you pretty much strictly Lew's but wanted to see for myself after a few times reading fanboy stuff like it will gain 10 yards on distance and there are no reels other than a Daiwa or Shimano. I'll say the Tatula 100 is a good reel but it's not as good as a Tournament imho. It's heavier, has less drag, makes a irritating clunk noise when the Twing moves, and the most irritating part to me is the dial on the outside can easily be unadjusted. I thought it was just me but I've seen other Daiwa guys have the same complaint. TJ81 just recently said the same thing in one of his recent videos. Still a good reel but unless the new ones cures all that it's nothing to write home about. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted February 26, 2017 Super User Posted February 26, 2017 S Sass are you talking about the drag adjustment dial? If so how are you holding your reel. I am curious since I fish 4 Tatula Type R 100s and 2 Tatula CTs and never seem to hit it. I have also read a few others mention it. I just never figured out how they do it. That dial has a click to it, so it should not be too easy to move by accident. Half of my reels are lefties and half are righties. When I grip my rod I have two fingers in front of the reel seat trigger and my thumb up on the reel spool. What hits the dial? Quote

Good to know I passed I passed on quite a few good deals on 13 and shimano due to the felt big in my hand compared to my lews reels. Lews was the first bait caster I ever purchased and always felt good with a good price so I always stuck with them just fig I would give daiwa a try with everyone raving about them guess I'll try one on a rod at b pro before I buy it to see how it fits I always Palm my reels with 3fingers above trigger with my thumb wrapped around so Ild be very uncomfortable holding it any other way and would fish a rod if I couldn't hold it the way that just comes natural at this point ...can't teach and old dog New tricks or an old fisherman 1 Quote
Super User rippin-lips Posted February 27, 2017 Super User Posted February 27, 2017 I had the issue with moving the brake dial on my tatulas also. Not all the time but enough. I hold the entire reel in my hand most of the time though. 1 Quote

Enough to annoy me. The good thing (if this is good) is it makes a audible clicking so I usually heard it and or felt the knurled edge of the dial rake against me. I also palm my reels. Maybe this is more user technique that gets me in trouble with it. I just know the dials recessed into the reels like the Lew's I never had that issue with. I also want to clarify the reel is not bad its actually a smooth reel. I also think its finish is nicer and better looking. But in the other departments if you gave me my choice I'll take my Tournament. Quote
Super User fishnkamp Posted February 27, 2017 Super User Posted February 27, 2017 S.Sass have you ever had a Tatula Ct, mounted on a rod, in your hand. I wonder if you would have the same problem on the smaller bodied reel. It would be interesting too see if it was still a problem. Since my hand is a bit on the bigger side, I dislike the smallest reels and actually like the size of the CTs and the Tatula 100s. In my opinion my Tatulas did not feel any different than my Curados or Chronarchs, at least not in size. I usually fish with two fingers in front of the triggrer. Quote
jdz197 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Just got the Tatula CT yesterday and I'm impressed with it so far. If anything the drag setting is harder to change than other external dials, I can't see myself accidentally moving it. 1 Quote

FrankN209 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I had the same worries when I purchased my steez. I read some where that the t wing can come loose. I called a Daiwa service center and he told me the only thing that could happen is, if you're do heavy punching with like 65lb braid that it could knock the t wing loose. I don't know how true this is, I've never had any problems with my reel. Quote
faygo1979 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Only issue I have is with leader lines. they catch going out of the T. Other than that I love them. Quote
jdz197 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I used to run longer leaders but now i just run about 5 feet of 15 lb fluoro with an FG knot and I don't have to worry about the knot going through the reel. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted February 27, 2017 Super User Posted February 27, 2017 Leaders that are longer than the rod itself, where the knot runs up into the spool often cause more issue than they're worth, on a baitcaster. Spinning reels aren't much of an issue. Quote
dam0007 Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 I've had the brake dial move on me on the older fatter style dials (Lexa, TDZ, AirD) Never on the Tats/Zillion SVs. They're stiff to move intentionally nevermind accidentally. Lol Quote
