SWVABass Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Just wondering does anyone have any experience with this knot and micro guides or do I need to find a new knot for my leaders? I'll be using 832 and yo zuri hybrid 8lb for my leader. Thanks Quote
The Bassman Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 FG knot will give you the slimmest profile. What I have found out though is that what you gain in slimness you lose in length. The FG takes up a lot of surface so it still makes it's presence known. I don't personally use a leader unless absolutely necessary. 2 Quote

It may be thin, but it is too darn long...for my tastes, not to mention a pain to tie regardless of how many YouTube videos are posted of how easy it is. Uni-to-uni with 10/15# PP and a 6, 8 or 10# is so small that it passes through my guides just fine. A Mod'd Albright/Alberto is also fairly small and doesn't give me any headaches with my one micro guide setup. 1 Quote
SWVABass Posted February 26, 2017 Author Posted February 26, 2017 Ok cool I will stick with what I know. I have to use a leader here, 10+ fov so straight braid doesn't work with the smallies. Thanks guys Quote
bigturtle Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 I dont know how big the inner diameter of your tip guide is, but I use an alberto knot to connect 30lb braid to 14-20lb mono/fluoro on my rod. My tip guide inner diameter is 2mm and I can cast and retrieve flawlessly Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 26, 2017 Posted February 26, 2017 Micro is a term used to describe a range of sizes. A well tied Albright joining 50# braid and 14# mono will pass a size 4.5 guide with no problem. Quote
BassGirl71 Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 Good information here. I've been hesitant about micro guides for reasons like this. Of course, where I live, icing can often be a problem early and late in the year, and it seems like the people I know who use rods with micro guides have more problems with ice clogging the guides up. Hez Posted February 28, 2017 Posted February 28, 2017 I use the alberto knot when I fish clear water lakes with micro guides and have no issue. Main line is 50 # power pro tied to 15 # flourocarbon I had the same concern at first, but after quite a few fishing trips and 2 tournaments fishing this setup..with the micro-guides, I definitely have confidence in it. 1 Quote
