I'm in the habit of whipping my casts, and that results in bird nests for me with 2 brakes off and even on a higher number... I'm not "whipping it" by any means (more like what bassman quoted hank parker)...I have the reel paired with a 6 ft short grip pro qualifier rod , med action and 17 lb sufix. These reels are easy to adjust , it's not rocket science. 1 Quote

My only complaint about the Curado is the tension knob is super sensitive and doesn't click. I can fling a 1/2 oz lure as far as I need to with 2 brakes on and exterior brake at 3. If the tension is too loose it will backlash. Old thread I know but I was just about to post asking if anyone else finds their Curado 70/71 spool tension adjustment overly sensitive. I bought a Curado 71 (7.2:1) earlier this season and it's quickly become my favorite bass baitcasting reel. Spool tension star does click on mine. Slightly small reel size fits my hand so comfortably. Less line capacity than some but so far never found it to be a problem. Only complaint is the spool tension (star) adjustment is extremely sensitive. It's still my favorite "go to" reel for general purpose freshwater bass fishing, paired with a PC66MF. Quote
Super User BrianinMD Posted August 15, 2018 Super User Posted August 15, 2018 The spool tension adjustment is not the star, the star is the drag. Spool tension is round. 3 Quote
5by3 Posted August 15, 2018 Posted August 15, 2018 Yes, I own a few curado 70s and find the tension knob to be sensitive. It’s also the same, if not more sensitive on my chronarch mgl. Not a bad thing, just takes some getting used to Quote

It's a Clarus -- I have heard they're decent rods, and apparently the jigging one was the only Clarus I've seen with the recommendations for lure oz going all the way up to 5 oz. 5 ounces??? Does it bend at all with a spinner bait? Quote
