So in building up my arsenal of rods. I have all my spinning rods but no casting rods as i sold off my old rods. I was at cabelas and found a 7ft medium heavy xf clarus rod on clearance for $45. Brand new in immaculate condition. I made the impulse buy but i can return it if i change my mind.

Anyone have experience with this rod? Yay or nay?

And what can i use it for? I was thinking light jigs and light frogging and maybe texad rigs.

I never liked the Clarus line, I found anything below a Crucial wasn't worth it.  Having said that at 45 dollars they are a decent rod at that price, the two things I didn't like about the Clarus line as a whole was they were heavy rods and weren't great in the sensitivity department (avg).  I say fish it and figure out if you like it, I use a similar powered Crucial for jigs/texas rigs only and could probably handle frogging.

I got one mine being 6'6", for 45 bucks get it, it's a great rod for the money, much better than, for example, a Lightnin Rod. I have it as a general purpose rod, got it paired to a Sahara 2500 and I really like the combo. Just an example that you can have a good setup with little money.

d-camarena, I think it's a good buy for $45 and I think it work well as a top-water rod throwing a spook, large popper or jerk bait since sensitivity was called into question. I threw poppers on a Clarus CSC-68MB with 8lb test 'cause it was fun and I thought the rod suited my purpose.  I'm sure it will work well until you decide to upgrade.  JB
