BigSkyBasser Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I've recently started fishing with a chatterbait following a tournament two years ago where I used one for the first time across a grass line and pounded on em' with my boater. I seem to find success with trailers that displace as much water and thrash as violently as possible. My current go to is a Bruiser Baits super swimmer junior but I'm looking around for other options and suggestions. 1 Quote

Kidflex Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 Try a bruiser baits evil twin. Has amazing action in the water and imo the outgoing curls actually has better movement (closer together) than a traditional twin tail grub. 1 Quote
SUPERHOT Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 I suggest the Kietech swimbait family(Swing impact FAT,Easy Shiner,Swing impact) Thanks to there super soft plastic, they can squeeze out the most Erractic action with no Effort. If the bass want a Crawdad impression try the Rage Tail Craws or Rage craw chunks(Paca craws and Paca chunks works too) 1 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 24, 2017 Super User Posted February 24, 2017 Strike King Rage Lobster or Zoom 5" Z-Craw If you'd prefer something shorter, they can be cut back. Roger Quote

Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 24, 2017 Global Moderator Posted February 24, 2017 Rig a Pit boss vertically. It's bulky so it displaces a lot of water, and the legs all flap during the retrieve. 1 Quote

The Rage grubs are a more "predictable" constant action, so that might not be what your looking for. But the chigger craw is pretty erratic. Quote

Take a IF and rig it upside down, it thrashes all over the place at most any speed. I do it when I am being cheap and want to keep using a plastic where the tail is still good but the head has ripped out on when rigged on swinghead swimjigs. Quote

Super User A-Jay Posted February 24, 2017 Super User Posted February 24, 2017 The chatterbait type lures are real fish catchers. Swim bait & boot tail trailers have proven themselves enough to be one of my first choices. But when looking for an alternative the Culprit Incredi Craw is an effective option. Some of the benefits of heading in this type of trailer direction are; less lift and the ability to speed up the retrieve a bit. I believe this (speed) is an often over looked deal with these baits. After the water warms a little, in the clearer water's I'm fishing, this has been a decent producer abd one I'll be working on a little more this coming season. With the right combination of circumstance (a balanced bait/ trailer combo as well as fishing conditions) some vibrating jig type baits when moved along at a good clip, have a tendency to 'hunt' quite a bit while they track along. Rarely a bad thing. A-Jay Quote

Most of the mentions in this thread are about thump, and most of the baits mentioned have a steady thump, not erratic. An OG Wiggle Wart is erratic, a Speed Trap is not. So, in my opinion it is the angler that usually adds the "erratic" to plastic baits, with pauses, twitches, lifts & drops, etc. 1 Quote
Airman4754 Posted February 24, 2017 Posted February 24, 2017 6" Kalin's Mogambo Grub. That's all I used to use, but I'm going to try a Menace grub next time out. Quote

Either way I'll probably end up going this route at some point when the bait bug bites and I'm shopping. 1 Quote
