Hello everyone, I got a kind of tricky question. I'm looking to get a finesse spinning rod to use with Drop Shotting, weightless senkos, shacky head, wacky rig, etc.(targetting LMB and Small Mouth) I know that it's best to have two different rods for said aplications but I can't afford two different rods. With that being said what would you guys recommend for a good all around finesse rod? (Price<$150)

Welcome aboard, Reilly!

For your purposes, at $150 and below, I'd

probably look at a St. Croix Avid at the high

end, then I'd look at Bass Pro Carbonlites

at the $100 mark.

I know there are a ton of rods in your range,

and in that range a LOT are really good quality.

If you can get your hands on several, say in a

Bass Pro, Cabelas, or local tackle shop, and do

bring the reel you plan on using. Pair them up

in-store and feel the balance to your hands.

I love the lightness of the Carbonlites. Lighter

than Avids, and, dare I say, about as sensitive.

More suggestions will come...

Thanks for the info Darren, What about for the power and action because that's where I'm most lost seeing as though the rod will be used for drop shot along with wacky rig weightless senkos, shacky head, etc.

I like a rod that is MXF normally, but if I was doing

all the above as you ask, I'd look at a MLXF St. Croix.

I do, in fact, do all the above with my rods of choice. :)

Their rods are a tad stiffer than other rod ratings at

the stated rating. So a St. Croix ML is in between other

ML and M rated rods, usually. There are no true standards,

hence the wacky ratings game.

You could also look at St. Croix Premiere rods that will fall

in the $100-$130 range. Also great. I personally find Croix

rods tip heavy, but I'm also using lighter Shimano 1000 size

reels. So they'd balance better with a 2500...

Last thing: I use older Shimano Compre 5'9" MXF, a BPS

Carbonlite 6'6" and mod'd 6'3" MF rods, and a St. Croix

Legend Tournament 6'3" MLXF rods mainly. Also use

BPS MicroLite rods which are quite nice at their lower price

point.

IMHO..............

St Croix 6'8"  M/XF Mojo if you target largemouth more than smallmouth, where a little cover comes into play, and plan to use 8-12 lb line.

Or......

St Croix 6'10" ML/XF Mojo if you target smallmouth more than largemouth in a more open water/light cover situation, and if you plan to use 6-10lb line.

In the perfect world..........get both and you'll have 99.9% of all spinning rod techniques covered.

If I had to pick just one, it would be the 6'8" M/XF. It can do everything the other one can do OK, and is slightly more powerful for when you need it to be.

I would find a 7 foot medium power fast action rod. I don't really care for XF tips.

The St. Croix Mojo Bass 7'1" medium fast would be a good rod its right at $130.

Which ever you prefer for the Avid. I have the M/XF smallie rod from Fenwick and I wish it was a tad lighter. If I were in your shoes, I'd get the 6'9" ML/XF Avid. I've never thrown a finesse shakeyhead over 1/4oz

Actually, if your Avid was a M/F instead of M/XF,

it might feel just right to you without reducing the power...just a thought

A Phenix maxum 6'9 ml would be a perfect rod for you I've taken mine Thur h*ll and back and it just keeps going very durable and for 100$ you can't beat it

I think @ww2farmer hit the nail on the head. I've got a St. Croix LTB 6'8" M/XF and a 6'10" ML/XF the M/XF will cover all the techniques you're looking to hit. It's great to have both, but if I had to pick one to cover all of them I'd go with the M/XF. The Mojo's will do a very good job in your price range and leave you a few $$ left over for some more finesse baits :)
