I just bought a trolling motor with on of those flip out mounts.

Thing is, that it wont fit on the bow, there just isn't room there. The deal is, that no matter how I angle it, it either has the handle hanging over the side, and sits over a storage box, or is in the way of the pedestal seat.

So, the question is; is there any reason I can't mount in at the rear like a kicker motor?

I know I will loose some maneuverability, but I see no other way. Any other reason I don't know about as to why this is a bad idea?

Thanks

I do have a very small Shakespeare Wondertroll 606 I could put on the front in addition to the 55lbs Minkota on the back, but I don't know if the 606 will even move the boat... I'll have to test it out.

You will probably have to rotate the head 180 degrees to make it work on the stern. I guess it's a hand control and not a foot control since you mentioned the handle so it you mount it on the back, the handle will be sticking out the back of the boat as it is, and yes, you will loose a whole bunch of boat control. Also mounting on the corner of the rear might make the boat push kinda cattie wampus through the water.

Can you make an adapter of some kind that will allow you to put the TM where you want it? My foot control TM is mounted on a square alluminum tube I bolted on with stainless bolts and it works very well. I can post a picture if you want to see how I did it. Is you boat fiberglass or aluminium?

My boat is Aluminum... it's just the size of the TM and mount...

this is how I am going to do it.... just won't be able to get in one of the hatches and if sitting in the front, I'll have to be careful of my legs when the motor is in the up/stored position...

Al I have a Ranger 185vs with a factory mounted hand operated Minn Kota maximum 74lb. I just went outside & looked at mine because it's close to interfearing with the port rod locker.  The mount stickes out over the rub rail on the bow, about 1 1/2 "  Put the T/M in the down position & line the T/M shaft up with the center line of the bow Then shift the mount around to avoid your storage box. On mine in the stored position the The T/M head sticks out even with the rub rail along the gunnel. I hope this helps some.

Just keep angling it till you can get access to the storage with the motor up.  Who cares if the head sticks out over the side?

One consideration with allowing it to hang too far over the side.  If you need to tie up to the pier to get your trailer, you will have to tie to the other side or have some fat bumpers.

I have to say, I really like my bow mount tiller control Minn Kota.  You might consider the foot switch for power, I really like it.  BPS has one that latches and you can just tap, lock, or release with your foot.
