Main goal is it have fun and enjoy the friendly competition and learn new waters. 2 Quote
scbassin Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 When you as old as I am the goal is to still be breathing on 1/1/18 2 Quote
Fishinggeek Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 My goal this year is to enjoy life and fish as much as possible. 1 Quote
BigSkyBasser Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I can 2nd jerkbaits as a focus this year. Overall I'm concentrating on baits and techniques that aren't popular here because most of the bass fisherman haven't had well rounded success in tournaments so they just don't get fished. These include swimbaits, jerkbaits, vibrating jigs, and punching. The hope is that this will lead me to a new PB smallmouth as I firmly believe I spend most of my time in an area that easily is holding another state record fish (7+.) Quote
MTBassin Posted March 2, 2017 Posted March 2, 2017 I set a few goals for myself this year. (might be tough being a new dad, work full time, and school full time) 1. Catch 100+ bass. 2. Get better with dropshot and crankbait. 3. Get my wife on some bass. 4. Catch some fish from my kayak I bought last summer. Quote
HeavyDluxe Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 1. Get out fishing, kayaking, swimming, or walking with the family each week. 2. Head out for two fishing/kayaking days alone with each of my older kids. 3. Fish a lot. 4. Improve at clay shooting so I'm more able to murder ducks and geese next fall. 1 Quote
Super User Gundog Posted March 4, 2017 Super User Posted March 4, 2017 My goal is to work more on finesse fishing. Work on detecting the finesse bite and keeping fish hooked when using smaller hooks, lighter line and softer rods. Quote

HeavyDluxe Posted March 4, 2017 Posted March 4, 2017 I would if I could.... don't live exactly on the heart of the flyway. And snows don't really wind up here. I wish they did. I see videos of these tornados of snows and regret taking up waterfowl hunting AFTER I moved from Delmarva. Quote
markinny Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 when i,m not using a spinnerbait, my go to rig is a wacky rigged senko and i fish nice and slow. works like a charm. Quote
Neil McCauley Posted March 5, 2017 Posted March 5, 2017 My goals seem to get less and less focused on the fish every year, but oh well here goes in no particular order: 1. Keep gear more organized, clean, dry, maintained, etc 2. Add Sacandaga, Champlain, Ontario, and Placid to my map decals of lakes fished 3. Catch a 26" Laker, and 18" SMB and LMB 4. Catch a Landlocked Salmon 5. Fill the freezer with perch 6. Stay safe 7. Pull an overnight/day trip in early July 8. Use fly rod more 9. Get wife to accompany at least one trip, and not be miserable 10. Camp/fishing trip with dad and brothers Quote
bh91 Posted March 16, 2017 Posted March 16, 2017 My goal is to use the stuff I've bought . As well as catch the Wyoming state lmb record since it seems that most people fish for walleyes or trouts here .. the state record is only 7 lbs 14 oz Quote
shovelmouth83 Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 for me this year. #1 want to work more on my deep water tactics. #2 learn more on jig trailers and coloring/flavors. #3 learn patterns of the big bass a lot better. have fun and enjoy every waking day.. Quote
BassThumb Posted March 17, 2017 Posted March 17, 2017 My goal is to not have lateral epicondylitis (tennis/angler's elbow) in my right elbow by the end of the season. I got it real bad last year. Hurt for months. 1 Quote

I got it real bad last year. Hurt for months. That sucks... summer before last I had really bad wrist tendonitis that I couldn't keep in check. I play racquet sports (squash, mainly, and tennis) and have had the beginnings of TE before. I've found that consistently - and properly - wearing a good brace for it and some stretches really helps. Oh, and mainlining ibuprofen. Good luck. If I can help at all, holler. 1 Quote
JustinCT Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted my 2017 goals earlier in the thread but my most immediate goal is to now take the boat out of storage, clean her up, start the spring prep and fire the motor this Saturday. Going to be almost 60 degrees here after a month of miserable weather and I've got the itch bad. Quote
Mark Albert Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 2016 was a hard confusing year. My main goals for this year is to get the boat out more, make more memories with the little guy(my son). Getting some big ones would be nice too ? Quote
Falkus Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 After 9 years of Hard Bass Fishing - I have not caught one on a d**n Jig. This year's goal: Use mostly jigs at the lake that I practice at. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted March 22, 2017 Super User Posted March 22, 2017 My goals for 2017 are: 1) Use a baitcaster more often. 2) Use my comfort baits less and try new brands and bait styles. 3) Fish at least once a week during peak season. Quote
Hawkeye21 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 I'm all set to check off one of my goals this year. Got signed up for my first kayak tourney of the year. Quote
Kris2016 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 2017 will be a pretty big change for me and my fishing. I have sold off a lot of my fishing rods and reels to downsize my arsenal. I have purchased what I consider better quality rods and reels to get me started. I have changed my single line supplier to multiple suppliers and added a bunch of new lures, soft plastics and cranks. I have several things to add to my boat this Season. A dv unit for the co-angler and so I can see how much water I have for the outboard/transom mount trolling motor. I also will be adding two more batteries further up front for the bow trolling motor and start replacing the batteries. I plan on becoming a more versatile fisherman starting this Season. I am usually a pretty staunch soft plastics user so I plan on doing more crankbaits and spinnerbaits among other things. I have a couple of other ideas on things to try and will get them going after April 1st. Quote
