Crankbaits : Chrome & Blue vs. Chrome & Black ?

With respect to the subject title - what goes into your decision process as to when you use a chrome & blue vs. a chrome & black crankbait ? I had heard that for a sunny day with blue sky is best for a chrome & blue crankbait while the chrome & black crankbait color is better for a overcast or cloudy day ... Your thoughts and experiences between the two color crankbait options ?

I'veheard about the sunny vs cloudy day thing, but I just use whichever I have available.

I dont care what the secondary color is, if its chrome I throw it in clear water regardless of the weather.

I would think most of the time the fish probably can't even see the color on top. I think they're mostly just seeing the shiny flash of the chrome. Now saying that there will be days that chrome/black is better than chrome/blue but that's more about the lure matching what they are feeding on.

I think Jaderose's approach is as a good as any. I don't think it makes any difference what color the back is to the fish. I prefer the black ☺

I don't know why, but the only time I have luck with chrome/blue is when I am fishing with a lipless baits. Chrome/black works for me with crankbaits and topwater baits.

There are many, many ways to compare fishing results, the least of which is lure color.

For instance, if you were not closely monitoring lure color, you'd be unable to make the above statement.

Instead, you could analyze more essential matters by using lures of identical color.

Instead, you might compare different pause lengths, different retrieve speeds or

slack-line freefalls versus tight-line pendulum glides, etc., etc..

By introducing a new set of players you'll open up a new set of conclusions

When it's sunny and clear I like life-like and flash, so it comes down to mimicking the baitfish for me.  I have plenty of both colors, but on the bodies of water I fish, anything that looks like alewives, perch, madtoms, etc tend to get the nod.  On most bright, clear water days, I'm usually alternating between burning that crankbait as a search pattern and following with finesse plastics.    

 

Thanks for posting about gold @A-Jay.  This is a reminder that I obviously need to buy more tackle before the season picks up here.

Works great for me. They come off easily and I leave them in the tackle box and don't bother putting back on until I get home. I can see how it wouldn't work for some people.

Personally I like to throw chrome/blue on bright sunny days, if there's more cloud cover, I'll go chrome/black. Does it really matter? Who knows, but it seems to work for me.

I have fished chrome blues here and there with no positive results.

I have thrown chrome blacks with great success. 

I wish I knew why. 

But I have given up on blues all together and strictly throw black.

 

Just like the color fire tiger.  That does NOTHING for me and refuse to buy that color.  But others in my area swear by it.

I use chrome black. Not sure I even have a chrome w/ blue back.

 

But chrome Sexy Shad Redeye Shad is one of my go to baits. It just about always catches fish.

Chrome Blue has a good reputation at my local lake. But honestly Chrome Black has produced about the same for me. But it's not like anyone has scientifically determined one is better so generally Blue gets the nod.
