So I have recently gotten an aldebaran and can't decide on a rod to go with it. Since it's the nicest reel I own I would like to pair it with a fairly nice rod but nothing like an nrx unless I can get a stupid good price on one. I plan on using it for weightless worms and possibly some shakey heads or small Texas rigs. lookinh for something in the 200-250$ range. Any ideas?

Shimano Zodias 6'10" ML, awesome rod.  I own one and it is paired with a Met 13 HG and I use it for weightless trick worms, small texas rigs and split shot rig.

The Megabass Orochi XXX will be available next month.  The F 2.5 Black Themis looks like the model you're looking for.  Check them out on the Tackle Trap.

How about something nice and light to take advantage of the light reel???

Okuma Helios 7' M/F @ 3.3-3.4oz to have a very light rod/reel set-up.

The bonus is the Helios rod is at walmart for $107 regular price $180.

Here is the balance with a 50Core on the rod, tip is still light in hand.

If you are willing to try used, you can likely find a much nicer rod for your money.  G Loomis MBR842C GLX would likely pair perfectly with that reel.

That Zodias is a very nice rod.

G loomis IMX.  I have more than I care to admit.  They are super nice and you can usually find them in that price range if you look around.

I've heard good things about the zodias, just never had the chance to handle one.

I like the the idea of the new megabass, not sure if I want to go with something as short as 6'7". Had a 6'6" mh rod and for the life of me couldn't get a decent hook set and I don't know why. I generally stick with 7' or longer. But I've heard the shorter rods are better for skipping docks.

How is are the actions on the glx? I like the idea of having one for this reel. I'm not familiar enough with loomis to know how the different styles are. Such as the jwr or mbr

Yes its a 51 bfs xg or hg. Can't remember off the top of my head

How are the imx's compared to glx's

A zodias 1610ml is a nice rod but is best around 1/4 to 3/8.  Is your Aldebaran a 2016 BFS?

What DaveT63 suggested is a MBR (Classic Mag Bass), I haven't owned a MBR rod from Loomis (only JWR) because I haven't been able to see one in my local stores.  (I don't like to buy rods without seeing them)  I hear great things though about the MBR line for G Loomis, they are supposed to be a good all around technique type of rod.  I think you putting that Alde on a GLX would be sick!

Yeah I knew t was the mag bass and a jig worm rod. I just hear people talking about how the tapers are. I'm the same boat as you about buying rods. the actions are one of the things I'm pretty particular about

Combo that ive had my eye on for a little while now is an Aldebaran paired with a kistler helium 3 md/lt. That rod though is in the $250-$300 range though

I've heard a log of good things about the kistlers, just yet again never had the chance to handle one. I think I like the idea of a glx 842

If you go with the MBR842C GLX, you will not regret it.  Ive never heard anyone say anything bad about that rod.  And unless you pay an arm and a leg for it, you could sell it and get your money back.   I prefer mine over the same NRX.

You can get a Dobyns Champion in your range. I don't fish casting gear very often but the DC 703C I handled at my local store while messing around with some Champion spinning rods was a very impressive rod. I really haven't seen anybody say anything bad about the Champion line up either.

I actually have a champion 734 that I really like. Just don't know if the 3 power is as light as I want. Being a military I get a really good discount on dobyns from the factory.

They do offer a 7 foot 2 power as well.

That's true. I need to find some place that has the glx and dobyns so I can get a feel

How well would a St croix legend tournament 7'2" medium moderate work for wacky worms and shakey heads?
