Jon Morris Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 Almost every bit of lake/pond water in my area is filled with the stuff,.... wether it really is snot grass or just algae basically most of my retrieves produce a pond booger on the end of my line. There is no dragging a Texas rigged bait or jig slowly across the bottom........ And the idea of using a bait with a treble hook is laughable. Just wanted to know what you guys do to best deal with the issue? 1 Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted February 21, 2017 Super User Posted February 21, 2017 We have a few lakes with this problem as well. Drop shotting (with a 3' - 4' drop, hook to sinker) has worked well for us, providing the stuff isn't suspended in the water column. If it is, I find me another lake. 1 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 21, 2017 Super User Posted February 21, 2017 I have fished it with a lot of success . So thick and slimy the only way to fish it is on top . I use a weightless Yum Swurm and Big heavy hook . Just plop it on top work it into holes , thin spots or twitch in place . When a big bass hit I dont set the hook until the fish is felt . There isnt much of a fight because they become entangled in the stuff .They are difficult to reel in with the moss adding all that extra weight and having to come through it too .. Quote
Super User fishballer06 Posted February 21, 2017 Super User Posted February 21, 2017 Like mentioned above, drop shot. For topwater, frogs work well, or texas tigged buzzbaits like a Horny Toad, Zoom Z-Craw, Havoc Pit Boss, etc. can work well. Quote
j bab Posted February 21, 2017 Posted February 21, 2017 We have a pond like that here. A lot of times I throw a lipless crankbait and keep it away from the bottom. I like the drop shot idea though Quote
Super User scaleface Posted February 21, 2017 Super User Posted February 21, 2017 I cant imagine a drop shot working in that stuff and surely not a lipless crankbait . We must not be on the same page . Theres another thread started today called "understanding vegetation" with a picture . Thats the stuff I'm talking about . Its just thick slimy moss , no stems , leaves ... 2 Quote
Super User RoLo Posted February 22, 2017 Super User Posted February 22, 2017 It's called "spirogyra" and it bites the bag! 1 Quote
lonnie g Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 I drag a finesse worm no sinker over the top let drop in holes.do let her run a bit before set. or a small lizard same way. do you have to clean moss some times ,yes. it is cool when they blow up thru the thinner moss tho tough fishing, but in hot weather those big ones love laying under it. 1 Quote
jbw252 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Topwater lures or move to another lake. RoLo is right! Quote
Super User Angry John Posted February 22, 2017 Super User Posted February 22, 2017 i use a weedless swimbait like a bastrix with an internal hook. Just a small slap and its clean again and ready to throw Quote
Ads7633 Posted February 22, 2017 Posted February 22, 2017 Another option would be a weightless fluke, you have to be patient but they come through that stuff pretty well. 2 Quote
